« Breakfast at Peach Pit. »
That was all Lydia's text said. It was 7:58 and she was already there, a hot cup of cocoa in her hand, eyes looking out the window. The wind was blowing through the trees and she thought that maybe this night she'd spend time at the beach. When 8:00 stoke, the door swung open, and Lydia didn't need to look up to know the sound of those heels; only Liraz ripped the floor to halves when she walked.
-"Right on time" She gently beamed, and the beautiful redhead mirrored her smile.
-"Can't keep Little Lydia waiting" She chanted, taking off her coat. "Ace will be here in no time, he had to go home and change" Lydia's mood brightened when her friend smiled so brightly at the sound of Ace's name. Her dark red hair and sparkling eyes flashed like the morning sun on the horizon.
-"He spent the night at your place?" Lydia whispered, hunching over the table, her voice dripping with curiosity and excitement.
-"Yes" Was all the redhead said, suddenly frowning. Lydia felt the sudden change in her friend's mood, but she decided not to ask questions. Liraz looked too deep in her own thought. "He spent the whole night" She mumbled, holding her black coffee in her hand and inhaling its fresh scent like it was pure oxygen. The satisfaction she felt cannot be foretold with words. She, then, put her cup of coffee on the table, leaned in and whispered with joy. "We didn't sleep much, we just talked, and talked some more. He didn't get bored with me and I couldn't be bored even if I tried. I fell asleep in his arms, and when I woke up, he was still there, hands wrapped around me. He didn't leave, he didn't leave, Lydia" For a while, her eyes, her lips, and her spirit all at once smiled. And for the first time, Lydia caught a glimpse of the young Liraz she knew before Vlada's death.
-"I am so proud of you, Liraz" Lydia smiled nostalgically.
-"For what?" Her sentences were always sharp and short.
-"For not running away"
-"I tried" She shrugged, and she shyly painted a sunshine over her lips. "But he keeps catching up".
Lydia smiled at the girl with the fiery hair. The door was now closing and she was silently communicating with somebody, Liraz didn't look up, she was enjoying the view, how the trees danced to the beat of the wind, how the sky kept shifting between grey and light blue, the sun would cast some shy rays before drowning in the clouds.
-"Good morning" The voice crept into the redhead's ears like an old song on the radio. She hasn't heard it in a while, but it was seared into her brain.
Almost before she could talk, the boy was locking eyes with her like she was waving a gun.
-"Morning, Tyler" Lydia smiled, tapping the seat next to her, which he gladly took. "Had a good night sleep?" He nodded, making sure to smile back. His eyes flickered to the redhead, but she was stoic. He couldn't read her expression, nor her body language. She looked like she didn't even realize he was there.
