Kevin POV

I spent the next two days by Edd's side. His breathing was soft and shallow and he hadn't moved an inch since we left the hospital. I forced myself to stay awake so that I could check his pulse every few minutes.

I was fighting to keep my eyes open when Nat burst into the room.
"Hey Kev! My date got bumped up to tomorrow! In less than 24 hours, I'll be copping my feel!"
My eyes shot open and I whipped around in my chair."You scared the shit outta me Goldberg! How'd you even get in here?!"
"Magic. Anyways, my husband called and-" He stopped and looked at my face.
"Dude, you look like shit!"

I rolled my eyes "Kiss my ass Nathan."
"Gladly. But I won't get  any enjoyment with you looking like this. You look like you haven't slept in a hundred years."
"I feel like I haven't."
"I told you to call me if you needed help!"
"I didn't need any though. I was fine before you barged in here."
"You were falling out of the chair when I walked in!"
"I was just taking a quick nap."

His face turned serious. "Dude, don't try to handle this alone. I know you love Edd but you can't help him in the state you're in.Go get some sleep. I'll watch Double D. "
I wanted to argue but I knew he was right.
"Fine, just... Just make sure he's still breathing."
"What? Don't you trust me? I'll come get you if anything happens."
I gave one last look at Edd before getting up to leave. I felt myself start to sway as soon as I stood up. Nat grabbed my arm and put it around his neck.
"Come on let's get you to bed."
I could feel myself already starting to fall asleep. "You're really comfortable, ya know that?"
" Kevin giving me a compliment? I think I might like sleep deprived Kevin."
"Whatever."
He half carried me to the guest room and helped me get into bed.
"I'll wake you up in a few hours."

A familiar sound woke me up about an hour later. "What's that noise?"
I listened and heard soft beeping coming from down the hall. I was too tired to get out of the bed to investigate. "Nat's here. He'll deal with whatever it is."

I flipped the pillow over and got comfortable again. Before I knew it I had fallen asleep again.
****************************************
"Kevin."
I opened my eyes and realized I was sitting in the hospital room with Edd. He was sitting up in bed and was staring at something in his good hand.
"Edd? How long have you been awake?"
He didn't answer me.

"What's wrong? Are you in pain."
"I was."
I stared confusingly at him.
"What do you mean?" I got up and sat on the bed with him. I looked to see what he was holding.
"Tell me what's wrong E-"
"You led me on for so long." His hand tightened around the object in his hand.
"Edd, listen to me Babe. It was all a misunderstanding. We weren't-"
"You're the reason I'm in this room. I'm in pain because of you." The heart monitor began to beep faster.
"Calm down Edd. You're not in any condition to talk about this right now."
"You'll never break my heart again Kevin." He turned and stared me in the eye. His gaze was cold and empty.
"Get out." The calmness of his face clashed with the fast beeping of the monitor.
"Edd, I-"
"I won't let you hurt me again. Take your ring and go." He opened his hand to reveal the engagement ring.
"How'd you get that?"
"Go." He dropped the ring into my hand.
"Please, just let me exp-"
"GET OUT!"

I shot awake. Edd's angry voice echoed in my head as I looked around the room. I was back in the guest room at Edd's house.
"Was that just a dream?"
I shook my head to try to clear my mind. As I got out of bed I realized that I could still hear the faint beeping of the heart monitor coming from down the hall.
