Quick author note: I apologize in advance if this chapter is all over the place. It took me 5 rewrites to make the story coherent. Or at least partially coherent. I tried to add in a little comic relief to make up for the poor writing.

Nat POV

"The nurse said they'll bringing him out of surgery soon."
Silence.
"I gave the cops the info on that car and they're out looking for it."
Nothing.

"Kevin, come on man, it's not you're fault. It-"
"The fuck do you mean it's not my fault?! It's ALL my fault!"
"Dude, there's no way you could've known this was gonna happen!"
"I knew he was feeling neglected. If I had called him back; sent a text or something.... He wouldn't have jumped to conclusions like that. He would've listened to me!"
"You don't know that! Besides, this isn't the time for 'if's'."
"I was in his room last night... Why didn't I just leave it there? None of this would have happened..."

I stared at the floor. I couldn't help but feel guilty too. Kevin just wanted to leave the ring in Edd's house. The grand proposal was all my idea. "You can't leave it on the nightstand!" I said. "What's the point of proposing if you can't see his reaction? Here's what you gotta do..." I planned the perfect proposal and I practically forced him to practice it day and night.

"Kevin... Beating yourself up over this isn't helping. He's alive and that's what's important right now."
"How many times did I make him cry?"
Was he even listening to me?
I heard him sniff as he put his head in his hands.
"Ok, time to go."

Kevin POV

I heard the door open.
"Geez,I'm starving! The nurse said it'd only be a few minutes but they're taking forever! Want anything?"
"No. I'm fine."
"Mmh, Yes. You. Are."
I couldn't help but crack a smile. "Whatever Nat."

The door closed and opened a few seconds later. The sound of wheels filled the room. I sighed. "You think you're slick huh,Goldberg?"

Nat POV
"Oh, thank you!"
I glanced at Double D as he was brought into the room. I nodded and closed the door behind the nurse."Shit, he's pretty banged up. I definitely don't wanna be in there for Kevin's reaction."
I made my way out of the hospital and towards a coffee shop.
********************************************
I checked the time on my phone.
9am
"Damn! Talk about an all nighter!"
I leaned back and unlocked my phone. I hadn't heard anything from Kevin since I'd left.
"It's been three hours. I wonder if he's done crying. I'll give him 30 more minutes, then I'll head back."
I sipped my coffee and looked around the shop. I spotted a fine specimen sitting in the corner.
"What the hell, I'll give him another hour."

Kevin POV
"He's heavily sedated from the pain meds and anesthesia. He won't be waking up anytime soon. Go home and get some rest. We'll contact you if anything happens."
"I can't leave him."
"Are you sure sir? We can provide you free transportation to your home." The nurse looked me up and down. I must've looked like one hell of a mess. My clothes were still a little wet and I was missing a shoe.
"Yeah. I'm sure."
"Alright. Press the call button if anything happens."
The door closed behind her. The only sounds in the room were the heart monitor and Edd's breathing under the oxygen mask.

I looked at him for the first time since he had been brought in. He was barely recognizable. There were needles and monitors covering most of his body. His right leg was bandaged and placed in a sling that hung from the ceiling. His entire left arm was in a cast. What little bit of his face that was visible was pale and covered in scratches. His forehead was wrapped in bandages and small stitches ran down his bottom lip.

I opened my phone and looked at the message I had been typing only a few hours ago.
"You have a few more presents waiting for you Babe ;) 5 to be exact. The first one is hiding in the"

I tried to fight back tears. Why did I sit my phone there? Why didn't I just walk away as I typed?
Edd's angry face flashed in my head. "I saw you Kevin. You were holding him"
"Edd... I wasn't..."
I dropped the phone and kneeled next to the bed. The tears started to fall as I held his hand in mine.
"I'm so sorry...."
********************************************
"Yo, are you gonna sleep all day?"
I sat up and looked around for Nat. He had gotten comfortable in a chair on the other side of the room.
"What time is it?"
"Almost 11:30. I went and got your bike, had a refreshing cup of coffee, got some food, and met the future Mr. Goldberg all before noon. What do you plan to do today Sunshine?"
I thought about it for a moment.
"What should I do today?"
"Well... I'll stay here if you wanna go home and change."
I needed more clothes but I didn't want to leave Edd.
"I can't..."
He got up and grabbed the chart from the foot of the bed.
"A broken arm, severe concussion, twisted ankle, 3 broken ribs, 47 stitches, multiple scrapes and bruises, and enough drugs to knock an elephant out. Yeah, I don't think Double D will be waking up anytime soon. Now go home and get a shower." He pinched his nose and fanned the air.
"You smell like old lake!"
I grinned as I got up.
"Heh, Whatever Nat. Call me if he wakes up."

Summary: It was really hard trying to express everything that happened. I'll have to come back and rewrite this chapter later but here are the 2 big points of this chapter in a nutshell:

•Kevin wanted to propose to Edd by leaving the ring on the nightstand but Nat convinced him to make it more elaborate. They basically planned out a 5 part treasure find with the proposal being the final present.

•Kevin was actually reaching behind Nat to get his phone off of the lamppost. From where Edd was sitting, it looked like Kevin was holding  Nat's waist when in reality he had grabbed his phone  and started writing out a text to Edd.

I hope that made some kind of sense
