Chapter 17: Apology

Edd Pov

His face took on a solemn look.
"What's wrong?"
"Edd...I'm sorry."
"What happened to me Kevin? Please tell me."
"It was all my fault..."
His grip tightened around me with every step he took.
"I... shouldn't have ignored you. I shouldn't have been so secretive...." His voice cracked as tears formed in his exhausted eyes. I reached up and wiped them away.
"This isn't how I wanted to tell you..."
Pain shot through my arm but I tried my best to ignore it. He tried in vain to hide his face from me as the tears fell. He sniffed and his lips formed a sad smile. "Stop Edd. Don't strain yourself for me."

I wanted so badly to tell him it was alright.
"I couldn't comfort you when you cried at the lake..."
"What?" He froze and his grip became even tighter.
I wanted to wipe away his tears but I didn't have the strength to lift my hand.
His tears soaked into my cast. "I was injured but you were the one who was really broken weren't you?"
"GO FUCK YOURSELF KEVIN!"
"I hurt you but you've stayed by my side this entire time."

"Happy Anniversary, Babe!"
"Kevin... We've been together for five years correct?"
"Yes." His voice was a soft whisper.
Who could forget five years of having to put up with Kevin and his shenanigans?
"I... I think I remember now..."

He fell to his knees. I wrapped my arms around his shoulders. He held me in his strong arms and buried his face into my neck. His soft sobs shook his entire body.

A ring had fallen out of the box and into the dirt.
"I'm so sorry Kevin. I should have listened to you. I love you."
