Chapter 21

GRADUATION DAY: SENIOR YEAR

As my past disappears from my own eyes, my present has been unfolding with happiness and joy. The day that I've been waiting for has finally come. My makeup was finished and my hair was curled.

I got dressed in my white lace flare dress and buckled on my Steve Madden heels. I buttoned my gown and put on my cap. I looked in the mirror and said:

" I'm finally an adult"

My dad was waiting for me by the door in his black suit, smiling that his princess is moving forward in her life. Jasmine started snapping pictures of me and cried tears of joy.

I got in Jasmine's Prius and drove to my school.

I walked down the alley up to the stage. I saw my family sitting in the front row, giving thumbs up, holding flowers and gifts and taking pictures. I was proud that I'm graduating because even though I hate my life, my grades were amazing.

The line got smaller and the graduates sat down. Principal Anderson walked to the podium and gave a speech.

"Distinguished faculty, staff, families and friends, we are proud to honored the graduates of the Class of 2013. Thank you for joining us and supporting these young women and men that fostered their success. I'm standing in front five graduating classes and this class is very special. You 8th graders that was scared to enter a whole new world of high school. We made it together, as friends, as a family that made us achieve our personal best. I hope we were able to achieve your goals and make it through tough times. We hope that we helped you celebrate and appreciate your success and futures. Over the past couple of weeks, the staff has seen you guys share your feelings about graduation, talked about their fears and excitement about the future, and gave hugs and kisses for congratulations or saying good-bye."

I started to get emotional of joy.

" So with all this in mind, take your time to dream big. Continue to learn. Be curious and be opened to learn interests. Take responsibility of your success and your failures. Use your knowledge and experience to live your best story"

The lights dim and it showed a sildeshow of the seniors. Senior prom, senior trip to St. Augustine, and activities. I saw bunches of pictures of me and my friends. It showed 10th grade and 11th grade year and Chad was in a picture. Unfortunately, he couldn't graduate because he's in jail.

We all was called by our last name to get our diploma. I was happy to even touch my certificate. 

After we all got our diploma, Principal Anderson went back up to the podium.

" I would like to thank our teachers who helped these students with their future. Before I ended the commencement ceremony, I would like to say a few words. Gratitude opens door to life. I hope opportunities comes in your window, your hopes will be the highest of them all. The sky's the limit. Congratulations and May God bless you"

We all threw our caps and the crowd applauded and clapped. I hugged Kat, Diamond, and Joy.

Me: We finally graduated!!

Kat: Our direction is going to take us to...

All: SPELMAN!!!!

I saw my mom standing behind the wings of the stage. I smiled because I knew I made my mom proud and I'm glad she still alive in my eyes.
