"Stop stalling, make a name for yourself. Boy, you better put that pen to paper, charm your way out. If you talk, you better walk, you better back your shit up with more than good hooks while you're all under the gun."

Alex
Day 12 Out Of 14

I wake up with red puffy eyes at 6 o'clock in the morning. Sleeping without Emerald next to me proved to be a challenge. I hate the feeling of an empty bed.

I see the mess I made in the bathroom yesterday night and sigh. I grab a broom and dustpan from downstairs and sweep up all the glass.

Looks like I'll have to get a new mirror.

I brush my teeth and go back downstairs.

I don't even feel like eating breakfast.

It seems like Emerald's getting better and I'm getting worse.

There's so many thoughts circling around my brain right now that I can't think straight. I look at Emerald's sleeping face, she's so peaceful but then she wakes up and has to deal with my idiotic self.

I start to remember when I made up that horrible name for her.

Flashback Start
Senior Year

It's after History class and I decide to skip next hour with Jack, Madison, her group of followers, and some jocks.

Madison starts talking about Emerald and how she notices me talk to her a lot. Of course, she blows it out of proportion.

"Alex seems to fancy the little freak." She laughs with an annoying tone. I don't want to tell the truth because then she would snap on me and I wouldn't be able to hang out with the "popular" crowd again, so I lie. "Pfft, no way. I heard from my friends around school that she hooks up with guys nonstop. Her nickname is probably Groves the Ho." I roll my eyes.

I instantly feel bad for what I just said because I barely know the girl. So who am I to judge her? Even if she did sleep with a bunch of dudes, it doesn't matter because that's how she wants to live her life.

It's not just the fact that I don't know her story, it's because I do actually like her. She's herself and not fake like Madison. She has natural beauty, she doesn't dress to impress people, and from what I've learned from hanging out with her is that her personality is great. She doesn't trust easily though, which is a good trait, and isn't quick to jump into bed with me. She actually hates my guts right now, but I'm not giving up.

Flashback End

She wiggles around and slowly starts to open her eyes. One look at me and she closes them again, sighing and sitting up.

"Why are you watching me sleep?" She asks. "I don't know, but what I do know is that I want to apologize." I take her hand. "Alex, it's too early fo-" "Just hear me out. Please." I cut her off. She glances at me and instantly knows that I'm serious, "Fine."

I tell her everything that's been going on with me since the day of the Christmas party.

"Why didn't you tell me sooner?" She looks hurt. "You were having problems of your own and I thought I could deal with it myself, but I can't. The thoughts are getting worse everyday." I look everywhere but her eyes. "I understand, but when it's something this serious, you need to tell me no matter what." She lowers her voice. "I heard you when I left. Are you okay?" "Yeah, I just might need a new flat iron... and a mirror." I mutter. "At least they're replaceable." She gives me a small smile then I stare at the ground.

"I have an idea. We can drop off Baz and Peyton at your parents house for a week while we go on a vacation, just you and me."

"Emerald-"

"You need this, Alex. It's a good chance to get rid of some stress and anxiety, it might even help you with those thoughts."

I think about it for a minute. "Fine."

She smiles at me, "Trust me, it'll be both relaxing and fun."

"I hope so."

Maui, Hawaii
Day 1 Out Of 7

"Close your eyes." She giggles excitedly. "Okay, okay. Geez." I do as I'm told.

I have no idea where we're going because she booked everything. When she gave me the plane ticket, I literally almost had a heart attack. Most tourist attractions and hotels in Hawaii are really expensive and knowing her, she probably picked a room that's really big so it's comfortable and relaxing. I don't want her to spend all the hard earned money she made on this trip.

"Alright, open them." She says.

I open my eyes and feel them go instantly wide. In front of me there's a beautiful white villa-styled house with flowers and bright green bushes surrounding it. Just think of any movie that has overpriced houses in a tropical area, that's how it looks.

"Emerald, no." I sigh. "You don't like it?" She asks with worry written all over her face.

"I do! It's just- how much did you pay for this?"

"That's for me to know and for you not to. Now, come on!" She grabs my hands and pulls on it. I sigh and start walking with her into the oversized, and probably overcharged, building.

"Isn't it beautiful?" She moons.

There's light flooding in from all the windows and everything is very modern-looking. In the backyard there's a private pool that overlooks the beach (which, I must say, is really cool), a fancy grill, and a done up table.

"Please don't worry about the prices of everything, just enjoy it." She wraps her arms around me. "I'll try not to." I hug her back. She looks up at me and smiles before standing on her tiptoes to kiss me.

"Start talking 'a sensationalist.' Oh, he's slightly clever to just a certain extent. If you talk, you better walk, you better keep your mouth shut with more than good hooks while you're all under the gun."

-- I just want to address that I know I haven't been updating like normal and it's because of several reasons; I've been having writers block, I'm spending lots of time after school with my boyfriend, and I've actually been going to school everyday. I usually prewrite chapters and when it's time to post them, I edit it. But I literally only have one chapter after this that's ready to post, so I need to catch up with writing after that one is published. Which means that there's no longer a specific number of times or dates I update anymore. I'll post when I can and I'm really sorry about this. I should be ready to go back to the specifics by spring break and to make it up to you, I'll write a special, no drama, 2000 words chapter. I only do this for big holidays and normally it does include some sort of drama, so maybe it'll mean something to you guys.

Thank you all so much for supporting this book and getting it to 2k reads and over 100 votes, you are all very amazing people! --
