Chapter 10 - Blamed.

I rest my head on my hand, my elbow holding it up against the bed. My eyes meet the aquamarine ones across from me, its owner in the same position as me.

My mind is going crazy, screaming at me. But I couldn't bring myself to listen. I was going to have this moment and I was going to enjoy it.

"I want to court you, properly," Kaiden tells me bringing his other hand to my face and brushing away my rebel hair. "Take you out on dates. You and Dalia. I want to recuperate the years I missed. Will you allow me that?"
I close my eyes, "I'm not staying."

"What?"

I look at him, "I'm not staying. I'm sorry. But I only came here because my father asked me to. Because he's dying and he wanted to meet his granddaughter. Otherwise I would still be in the States."

"And you won't stay no matter what I do?"

"No." I whisper. "I have a life there. So does Dalia. I'm doing very well for myself."

"Are you really?"

I look away from him, "the bills get paid on time. And I can spoil Dalia every now and then."

"I don't want anyone but you," he pulls me towards him, pressing our naked bodies together. "I won't have anyone but you."

I close my eyes and let a stray tear fall before pulling away from him and getting up, "you should go. Dalia could come in at any moment."

When I don't receive a response, I turn around only to find him right in front of me, "you locked the door, remember?" I glance at the door and notice that it is locked, I don't remember doing so. "Jade. I'm not losing you again."

Before I can respond the knob makes a noise. We both look at it and begin to find our strayed clothes when whoever is trying to come on begins to knock frantically.

"Mommy!" I dress faster as I hear my daughter's worried tone, "MOMMY!"

I throw my shirt on and make sure Kaiden is dress appropriately before going to open the door.

"What's wrong sweetheart?" I ask Dalia, coming down to her height, worry as I take note of the tears on her face.

"Grandpa!" I look down the hall to my father's opened door, I take one more look at my daughter's face and rush to the room.

My father is uncontrollably coughing. I help him sit up, hitting his back.

"I'm calling the ambulance."

"Jade-"

"Shhh," I keep patting my dad's back, "don't talk. Save your breath. Get his nurse!"

I'm looking frantically around the room for something when the nurse rushes in, followed by my mother. I move out of her way as she opens a drawer and takes out an IV.

I step away, hating needles.

My dad's coughing slows down as the sound of sirens reaches my ears.

"Who called the ambulance?" My mother asks looking around the room.

"I did." Kaiden answers, "he's been stubborn long enough. He needs to be in a hospital, not here."

"I agree," I lift Dalia up.

"Is grandpa going to be ok mommy?" I pat my daughter on the back, "of course he is."

The meds place him in a stretcher and wheel him away. We follow behind.

"How's my father doctor?" I ask the man standing in front of me, "Is he ok?"
