Chapter 11 - The Story Repeats Itself

I could hear the soft beeping sound in the room before I found it. I heave a sigh as I recognize the room I'm in. Closing my eyes I try to recall what happened to me, but all I can remember is being upset about my father's death.

I open my eyes again as the door opens, "she's awake! Daddy she's up!"

"Shh!" I smile at my excited daughter, who rushes towards me, letting go of Kaiden's hand in the process. "I'll go get the doctor."

I hear the door close as Dalia sits on the bed, "how are you mommy? Are you going to talk again?"

I beat myself mentally as I notice the pain in my daughter's eye, the consequence of my silence since my father's death.

"Yes I am," I attempt to swallow my own saliva as my voice barely reaches a whisper.

"Do you want water?" She slides off the bed to the bedside table and carefully lifts up the water jar, tilting it slighting so that the water can pour out into the white foam cup in her hand. "Here."

I sip the water slowly, allowing its wetness to engulf my throat, "thank you honey."

The door opens slowly and Kaiden walks in with a women with pixie cut dark brown hair and green eyes, "hello," she smiles warmly at us, walking fully inside as Kaiden closes the door behind him. "Good to see you up Miss Newland."

"Good to be up," I said, sitting up on the bed, "how long was I out?"

"A few days," she informs me, grabbing the clipboard at the end of the bed, "seems you're body reacted to the malnourishment and dehydration you've been placing on it for the last few weeks with a fever. The fever itself drained your body and we had to induce you in a coma so that we could properly take care of you."

"But now you're ok," Dalia whispers.

The doctor looks over at Kaiden, "I would like to speak with Miss Newland alone. Nothing serious," she adds as Kaiden sighs.

Kaiden nods hesitantly, "come Dalia, lets get mommy some food."

"Ok," Dalia too gives the doctor a warily glance before taking Kaiden's hand.

"What is it Doctor?" I ask as soon as we're by ourselves.

"It seems that it's not just you who has been malnourished in the last few weeks."

"I'm sorry?" I fail to see why I should be inform about his other patients condition.

"Miss Newland, may I ask you when was your last menstrual cycle?"

I blush, not comfortable speaking about my period, "I'm sorry?"

"Please Miss Newland, I would appreciate it if you cooperate with me," she sighs, a pen hovering over the clip board.

"Last month," I tell her, racking my brain, "I should be getting it around the end of June."

"Miss Newland, it's July."

I look up at her, eyes wide, "what?"

"It's the second week of July," she informs me and a gap at her, there's not way. "You're pregnant Miss Newland."

"That's impossible," I whisper.

"Are you sure?" She raises an eyebrow at me, "when was the las time you had intercourse? Did you protect yourself?"

I gasp, no way.

"I will leave you alone to think about that."

I watch in shock as she walks out if the room, giving me a soft smile.

I couldn't be pregnant. This can't be happening again.
