Chapter Sixteen

Azalea

From a distance I saw my mom. Never in my life did I ever think that I would have of seen her again.

I walked toward her.

"Mom, is that you?" I asked the woman who uncannily reassembled my mom.

She smiled at me as I was within talking distance.

She gently caressed my face.

"Yeah, honey. It's me, how are you feeling?" she asked me.

I thought about her question for a moment and decided to not think much about the answer. I had a few other things I wanted to discuss, who knows how long I would actually be able to talk to her.

"Nevermind that now, where am I. How can I see and talk to you, how can you touch my face so easily. I was aware that you had died." I said.

"Yes, honey I am dead but you aren't. You had an accident and well you are in a coma and stuck in between death and life. I just need to tell you to fight, fight because life is the best thing any one person can have. When you get out of this coma the doctor is going to tell you some unsettling news and you are probably going to freak out and won't know what to do simply because that is what you do and I have always loved you for it. And that boy who loves you with all his heart, you need to be more kind to him. I know that he said he was done and couldn't risk his heart any longer but you would be surprised how bent out of shape he is in because you are in this hospital and that he can't see you. Give him another chance, and actually give your whole heart to the boy." she said.

"Mom, it's more difficult than that." I told her.

"I know honey, but one more thing before my time is up. Soon after the doctor tells you what is wrong with you, you are going to find something out and you are going to feel betrayed but I promise that was never my intention, and that I love you ever so much." She said.

I knew she would disappear soon so before she did I grabbed her and hugged her so tightly until she pulled away.

"Bye my sweet Azalea." she said

Then she began walking the opposite way and she disappeared into the distance.

Soon after she was gone everything I saw was black and then I heard unfamiliar voices.

Quickly I realized I opened my eyes and before I had even realized anything was going on around me my dad and Tyler were in my room asking me questions that were taking far too long to recognize with my brain.

"Why isn't she saying anything? Is she paralyzed?" Tyler asked the doctor.

"No. She just woke and some senses take longer to kick in then others." he said.

"Okay, so what is wrong with her?" Tyler asked again.

"She has this rare disease called aplastic anemia. If you have known or maybe recognized she would have been fatigued, pale skinned, dizziness, headaches, maybe even prolonged bleeding from cuts. In Azalea's case the disease is very severe and fatal at this point. The disease causes damage to her bone marrow which slows, or in her case is shutting down the production of new blood cells." the doctor said.

When I heard those words I was so shocked, but it made sense. I have been feeling so weak lately.

"How did she come about getting this?" my dad asked.

"Well we have done lots of testing with her blood and we believe that it's caused by an autoimmune disorder, it could possibly be cause by a few unknown factors." the doctor said.
