Summary:
When Gavin is late for work one day, he finds himself becoming late each day after just to see a cute red head that caught his eye.
Gavin Free stumbled about his messy and filthy apartment as he struggled to prepare for the day's work. He had made the mistake of oversleeping for the third time that week and he knew all too well the consequences that came with being late.
When he finally made his way out the door and looked down at his watch, he was already an hour late. Cussing under his breath, he locked the stubborn lock on his apartment door and hurriedly made his way down the stairs.
Living in a busy city like New York had its ups and downs. Mostly downs to be honest. Too many people crowded the sidewalk as he zipped and shoved past people who eventually parted for him, obviously knowing the feeling of being late.
When he finally made it to the bus stop, he was lucky to find many people already there, telling him a bus would be there momentarily. He searched his pocket for the change he always kept in there, and was met by the familiar sense of relief when he felt the random quarters floating on his fingertips.
Gavin took a deep breath of the exhaust filled air, breathing in the scents of New York City. He was beginning to calm down from his hectic morning and he felt his head clear a little once he reminded himself he wouldn't be too late.
Until he felt someone shove him, making him drop the file of papers he worked so hard on keeping organized.
Gavin's eye twitched as he stared down at the papers that now laid all around him. His mind become jumbled again and he felt like crying in frustration for his already shitty morning.
He heard the person that shoved him curse him out for making him spill his coffee. But right now Gavin couldn't be bothered with that.
Until an auburn haired man stepped in.
"Excuse me, sir, but from what I saw, you were the one who couldn't bother to move out of the way to avoid him. He wasn't bothering anyone and because of you, he must now pick up these scattered papers that I bet you aren't going to help pick up, hmm?" The auburn haired man growled in a Jersey accent. The other man rolled his eyes and muttered something about Jersey trash before walking away.
To Gavin's surprise, the auburn haired man bent down and began picking up his scattered papers the moment the other turned his back. He gapped at his kindness and couldn't help but watch him in amazement as he straightened them out and handed them back to him.
"Your papers, sir," The auburn haired said. Gavin nodded quickly and thanked him graciously, shoving the papers that he'd have to now organize again back into the file.
Once Gavin got a good look at the man, He instantly felt myself fall head over heels.
This man was gorgeous. He had a strong and broad posture that made him look a bit intimidating. His curly auburn locks complimented and framed his structured face. He had the palest of skin and light freckles dotted his face.
He was absolutely perfect.
"Are you alright, sir?" He asked him. Gavin nodded quickly and straightened himself out, pulling his gloved hand from the warmth of his pocket.
"Gavin. Gavin Free. You are?" Gavin asked him, shaking his firm hand.
"Michael Jones," Michael... What a wonderful name.
"It's very nice to meet you, Mi-cool," Gavin told him. He giggled a little at the way he said his name.
"I like your accent," He joked slightly. Gavin smiled and pushed out a giggle of his own.
"Likewise, love," He murmured back.
Just then, the bus came and Michael and Gavin got on. They sat on different ends but Gavin could still see Michael's eyes darting up to met his ever present ones. The next day, Gavin may have overslept on purpose. He once again stumbled around his excuse of an apartment, making his way to the door again.
Once he made it outside, he instantly regretted not looking out the window before leaving.
Rain was pelting down onto the sidewalks. Everyone was carrying around an umbrella, or trying to hide themselves under a thin hood. Gavin quickly became one of the latter as he dashed through the crowds of stubborn people once again.
The bus stop was less dense this time. But the sight of auburn hair under a dark blue umbrella lifted his heart a bit and Gavin wrapped his arms around his freezing torso.
He heard the shuffle of a rain jacket as he suddenly felt more dry then usual. Gavin looked up noticing the fabric of a dark blue umbrella.
He smiled graciously to Michael and shuffled a little closer to him. He tilted the umbrella a little more Gavin's way so he had more shelter from the rain.
"Thank you, love," Gavin thanked him, giving him one of his best smiled. He nodded and breathed in a breath, smiling along with him.
Five minutes later, they were back on the bus. This time they didn't hide the fact that they would constantly sneak each other glances and they relaxed into the comfort of each other.
