"So I seriously don't have anything planned for me today?" Jack asked David from his spot on the floor. He was currently trying to draw a picture of a flower but it wasn't working out like he had planned."Nope, Medda informed me that you were to relax today." David said leaning on the railing that over looked part of the gardens. The summer afternoon was warm and perfect weather to be drawing something as beautiful as the purple flower that sat in a pot next to Jacks legs. The only problem was he couldn't quite seem to get the shape right, it was actually quite frustrating.
"Relax? Relax and do what exactly?" Jack asked looking up at his best friend.
"Well... she suggested you get to know your wife a little better." David said shrugging. Wife... ugh, Jack would never get used to that.
"Un, no thanks." Jack said irritably and crossed his legs so he was in a more comfortable position.
"She suggested you take her on a walk. Apparently she loves the gardens." David said going on as if he hadn't heard Jack.
"I'd rather not gain her trust then have to crush it to pieces later tonight." Jack said bitterly and tossed his pencil to the side and got to his feet. The picture was awful and messy and forced Jack to shove it into his pockets.
"You act like your life is so terrible." David said and dramatically pretended to faint.
"Well would you want be me right now?!" Jack asked clenching his jaw at David, he hated when he got this way. All Jack wanted was for someone to feel sorry for him, but David always seemed to insist on giving Jack a reality check.
"No, I wouldn't. But that's not what I'm trying to say." David said.
Jack glared at him and leaned against the balcony, the sun was starting to sink lower in sky and he wished time would sloe down before he had to go face Katherine again. He'd felt so guilty seeing her that morning, she had barely looked up from her plate and looked as if she'd shrunk into almost nothing. He hadn't made her do that, had he? The thought that he had to go back and do it again made him frown. It would be a vicious never ending cycle the next few months.
"Look Jack, I'm not trying to tell you to pretend your having the time of your life. I'm just trying to get you to see that things really aren't that bad for you." David said breaking Jack out of his thoughts.
"Aren't that bad Dave? Do you even know what I've been through this past month? Medda is getting worse and worse every day! I am now the king of a freaking country! Not to mention I just married a girl I hardly know and-"
"At least you can get married!" David said defensively. "I'm not allowed to marry until I'm done working for you! Which won't be for a long, long time!"
Jack clenched his jaw knowing he was right, there was a law in the country stating that the maidservant or manservant of the Royal house wasn't allowed to do anything in their sentence except serve the Royal family. Every manservant or maidservant was "sentenced" to a life of serving until he or she's callings were fulfilled. So in David's case, that meant the next few years we're going to be filled with giving Jack advice and not letting him go crazy.
"Look Dave-"
"Oh quit whining Jack, you live in a castle, you have everything that you want, and your the King! And not to mention... the Queen is very beautiful, you could have gotten stuck with someone who isn't." David said crossing his arms.
Jack had to give him the last one, Katherine was very beautiful. He just didn't want to admit it so David could tell him to be great full for it. Jack crossed his arms trying to to toss David over the edge of the balcony, Jack could always come to him for help but he always had to expect a fight. They'd been friends for so long Jack was certain David sometimes forgot Jack was the king.
"I understand that you hate being king, and I get that you don't want to do what your told." David said looking irritated. "But you need to realize that it's for your own good. You don't really have a choice Jack."
Jack uncrossed his arms and gripped the edge of the balcony, the sun was beginning to touch the horizon and the sight made Jack angry for some reason. The anger never helped Jack in any situation and it certainly wasn't going to in this one either.
"Fine!" Jack snapped knowing for certain he was going to regret this decision later. "Guess I'll just go see my beautiful wife right now! After all, I should be ever so great full for her, guess I'll just do what I like to her tonight." Jack said backing away from the railing.
"Jack don't be stupid." David said giving him a glare. "Don't you think you can do what ever you want just because your the king."
"I'm not. She's my wife isn't she? I think I'll do what I like. Might as well have a little fun." He said convincing himself that he could actually push Katherine to a bed and do what he wanted.
How hard could it be? She wasn't allowed to refuse him. He was being completely irrational but and his brain had shut down completely, deep down inside he knew it was wrong but nothing was gonna stop him from what he was about to do.
