chapter 6

i was supposed to share a room with one of the other girl cadets, but all of them were terrified of the red, so now i have to share a room with lukas... que cringing. i was having a rather pleasant dream at the moment, it was of many years ago. a time when everything was fun and sweet. i was a little girl around the age of seven, and i was in the woods with karma, toni, and lukas. we were all running around playing scouts. the air was filled with laughter and joy, but then everything turned dark. a titan appeared out of nowhere and it's hand clasps around lukas' waist. everything slows down and i can so clearly see the absolute terror on his face. we were all screaming, but toni and karma were running away. i just stood there unable to look away as that vile giants teeth bored into lukas' skin. i feel bile rising in my throat watching and having to listen to the tearing of flesh and screams plated with pain and horror. lukas' upper half was now in the titans belly and his waist and legs were next on the menu, but before i could see the rest of the foul dream i open my eyes to see lukas looking down at me, but it's not only him in the room. jean is there, and so is that guy he was fighting with, but they were just in the background. karma and toni were obviously there on either side of lukas asking me if i was okay and if it was the usual nightmare. i couldn't help myself, i threw my arms around lukas and nearly cut off his breathing and started crying. he immediately hugged me back, less out of relief than to comfort me.

"angel, it's okay, we're all here, everyone is safe. okay?" lukas softly mumbled. karma and toni joined in the hug and jean just kind of patted my head awkwardly, like he didn't belong. the other guy just stood there like an outcast. i cried into lukas' shoulder until i fell asleep again, this time not having that same repeated nightmare.

"what was that about?" jean asked once i was back in bed. karma, toni, and lukas all looked to the floor, their expressions grim. karma was the one to explain

"alexis was really young when it happened, her and her family lived in shiganshina. her father was a merchant so they were pretty well off, but they never wanted a second child. alexis' parents were perfectly satisfied with allen, her older brother. when she was born they were upset, they even thought of giving her away." karma scowled. toni continued for his brother.

"in the end she stayed because they knew no one would want such a child as her, the very definition of red. alexis was very... quiet growing up, the only one in her family that would even acknowledge her existence was allen. they were the best of friends nothing could keep them apart. me and karma met her when we were being bullied by some mp's that were patrolling shiganshina for some reason or another, when she hurled a rock and knocked out one of them, when they turned around to start chasing her allen grabbed us away." toni then stopped and waited for lukas to explain the hardest part, he was the only one that could say it without breaking down.

"i met angel during a business trip my father was taking to shiganshina from sina. i was walking around and bumped into her and allen, after introductions there was suddenly a shadow looming over us when we looked up we saw the colossal titan." he paused to take a shaky breath, then continued, "there was a gust of wind that almost knocked me over, and heavy thumps sounding from the walls direction. allen took alexis' and my wrists and ran in the other direction. i think he was looking for garrison soldiers but i wouldn't know. we just ran and ran, away from the wall. we almost made it with all of us alive and uninjured, but before we could get close to the ferry a titan came at us like a flash of lightning, sprawling its fat meaty hands towards us." he paused to take another shaky breath. lukas gritted his teeth before he continued, "allen threw us away before the beast could get us, but in the process he lost his own life, alexis never forgave herself for letting her only real family die while preserving her life." lukas finished. the room was silent while jean and the unnamed boy let the information sink in. karma and tony could feel the tense and somber atmosphere and tried to lighten the mood by picking on the two more experienced scouts.

"whoa whoa whoa, i don't even know who you two are! introductions are in order then~" the twins exclaimed together. they all looked at the duo strangely, but had no objections.

jean started, "Jean Kirschtein, pleasure to make your acquaintance," he said with a friendly smile. the twins inspected him closely, but lukas had no interest and was watching over me as i slept.

"what are you doing here?"karma asked blankly, still inspecting him. all of the staring was starting to make jean uncomfortable and he nervously scratched the back of his head.

"uh, me and alexis are friends.... kinda," he mumbled the last part. when he said that the twins immediately had cheerful expressions plastered to their faces.

"in that case nice to meetcha! i'm karma elis," he smiled.

"and i'm toni elis! oh and the guy looking at lexi creepily while she sleeps is lukas fox," the other one said.

"i'm not being creepy!" lukas pouted. the twins the looked at the other guy, waiting for a name.

"oh! uh, eren jaeger..." the newly introduced 'eren' said.

"and you're here because?..." Toni trailed off for eren to finish.

"i heard screaming from my room next door..." he said, 'wait, you said allen, allen what?"

"allen enjel, why?" toni asked.

"wait... enjel? where have i heard that before...." eren trailed off thinking. i was starting to wake up at this time because all the boys were making so much noise.

"you guys are so loud, would it kill you to shut the hell up?" i grumbled sleepily. that is when i notice eren. "who the hell are you? and why are you in my room?"

"eren jaeger, i heard you screaming from next door," he said.

"jaeger huh? as in doctor yeager?" i ask.

"y-yeah how do you know my dad?" he asks.

"my parent let him examine me a lot when i was younger, something about research i think?" i said quietly. eren's eyes go wide, thinking the worst.

eren's pov for a bit~~~

i-is she like me? no, that can't be possible... but what if she loses it and goes on a rampage like i did? i was lucky enough to get put with the scouts, but i don't think she could be that lucky, i need to get her alone then, maybe talk to the commander about the possibility... yeah that sounds like the best thing to do.

~~~back to normal~~~

eren seemed to be thinking intently.

"sorry i have to go now," he rushedly says and then exits the room hastily. the four boys look confused as to why he left, but i think he was afraid, scared i was a monster perhaps? ahhh so many things to ponder~

"jean, what time is it?" i ask.

"uhh, around four am," he says i groan, but get up anyway.

"everyone, get out," i say grabbing some clothes. everyone exits the room with the exception of lukas. i glare at him but he sits on his bunk and waits for me to change. "get the hell out you perv!" i yell at him.

"okay okay fine, but only this one time," he says also exiting the room. after he leaves i procede to get ready to start my first full day as a member of the scouting legion.
