Walking through the streets of early morning NYC was nice. The sun peaking over the skyscrapers, while the soft yet gentle breeze blew on your face. I was almost there when I saw it. "It" being a group of hooded figures heading into the direction of Jakes house. Running towards them I didn't realize the outcome until he saw Jake walking out of his house and the men heading towards him."JAKE RUN!" I yelled out. But my voice got lost somewhere in the air.
What happened next shocked me, straight to the core. The guys were headed to him, when suddenly he rose his hand lifting them all into the air before he slammed them into the wall of the neighbors house. He had seemed to be using some force empowered in his hand. I was intrigued. I didn't realize I was staring until he was in my face, looking guilty stuttering out incoherent words.
"That was um- I magic? It- I have powers... as well as you- I mean you have; and then- this is a big prank? We were-"
"Jake!" I said exasperated, cutting him off. "I have known you since we were like 5, were seniors in high school now, I know you're lying. I'm shocked! Yeah. But I think it's cool. You're like my personal bodyguard!" I didn't turn to see his reaction. I kept walking down Central Ave to Grove St. where our high school was.
"If only you knew.." He whispered, thinking I didn't hear him. To late I heard.
"What do you mean?" I asked as we were heading closer to the school.
"Look," he said suddenly after a few minutes "I can't explain it right now, but I will as soon as possible!" And he was off into the school heading towards his class.
Walking into the school was strange. It was as if everyone knew something I didn't. Students walking by would pass me nervous glances, while others were shooting glares at me.
"Oh well," I thought to myself. "They're probably jealous of my grades." And I was off; headed down the senior hallway to my locker. Getting closer I noticed these 3 men in black suits, standing guard right in front of my locker! As I headed closer I couldn't help but notice that they all looked like triplets. But why were they here? At my locker?
"Sebastian Jacobs?" The one on the right said.
"Yes, s-sir." I stuttered out.
"We're here to inform you that the NYC Police Department has informed us to get you and your little friend Jake White to help us on a mission," The man on the right continued. "This mission will include risk taking adventures. And discovering things about yourself along the way. This is not your decision to make, if you want to do it or not. Your friend Jake was already taken to the station." And with that the man on the left lifted me up. Tossing me over his shoulder. The rest was a blur, of embarrassment from my fellow classmates and questioning looks from the staff.
Getting to the station wasn't hard, considering it was a few blocks away from the school. And I was also panicking the whole way as well. When I stepped out of the black mustang, I instantly saw Jake and started to calm down a bit. His bright red shirt and brown hair reflecting off the suns rays. He looked like a stop sign.
When we got in the guys started explaining stuff to us, about our mission. Talking about the gang that was aiming Bushwick and was attacking random strangers. Our mission was to defeat the boss. I was all for it. But then Jake spoke up "What about Bas's powers?" Using the nickname only used in serious cases.
