The air around downtown was colder than the night before although it was seething with bodies. There were people everywhere; pedestrians crossing the street, kids jack rabbiting from their parents tight grasp, old couple walking their tiny dogs while pushing their grocery carts, hobos, people that looked like hobos....
Sam's hoodie was zipped all the way up to his chin and he ducked low to avoid giving a chance for anyone to catch a glimpse of his pale face...specially his right eye which was thundering and pounding in its veins, his red iris moving everywhere out of his control. Sam was beyond tired and as he crossed the street to get to the opposite row of shops, a shrill laughter came from beside him. He swiftly turned just enough so only he could see and saw a little girl...enjoying her ice cream.
A girl...he thought vaguely.
Immediately his mind flooded with the noisy atmosphere and the growing chorus of the peoples voices. Sam turned around and around, examining each one of them.A man on his phone
A lady pushing a pram
A boy with an airplane
The taxi driver yelling out for customers
An old lady feeding a flock of birds
The girl with the ice cream
A lady..
A man....
A man....
Food! Part of his voice was saying
A baby crying...
Blood! Food!
An old man
Flesh! Food! Food! Hungry hungry HUNGR-Sam clasped his head, shaking. "Stop!! Stop! Stop!!" What-what am I thinking? I can't eat...people...
Feeling sick, he walked out of the Main Street and into an alley, thrusting his shivering fingers into his pockets. He walked a little further before the alley spilt into an intersection. Sam was about to keep heading straight when an aroma caught his sense.he stopped in the middle, his nose high in the air as he sniffed, closing his eyes. The red right eye was pounding even more right then and his hunger seemed to intensified as the delicious smell made him a little light headed.What-it smells like...
He ran, following the smell to his left. A sudden happiness and relief washed over him as he kept running and the aroma got stronger. It was so strong that it made him drooled unconsciously.
It smells like....mom's cooking
A sudden image of his mother popped into his mind, her cherry smile behind the counter as she prepared dinner...and the feeling was too good. The aroma was very intense now as the road turned right into a corner, seemingly even darker. Sam ran on, round the corner and ran a little bit more before realizing what the bloody pile of meat in the middle of the road was. He stopped dead in his tracks, his smile frozen on his horrified face which only made him looked like a child who has lost his sanity.
Over the messy pile, something was lavishing on its flesh. Or rather...someone. As Sam made a horrible whining noise in his throat, the someone's head snapped up and it's two red black eyes stared right into his soul. Surprisingly he was a man...demon...man type and he seemed confused to see Sam with only one mutant eye. The man blinked and Sam could stop starring at his bloody lips and flesh incest fingernails and blood soaked suit.
"Are you a ghoul?" The man actually spoke and Sam felt the tears collecting at his eyes before falling away freely on his cheeks. Except that his right eye cried blood.
"Are you hungry?" The man asked politely before ripping part of the victim's abdomen and waving it at Sam. "Well, I don't usually share my prey...but maybe just this once since you look real pitiful. How long since you last ate?"
How long since he last ate?? Sam gulped, his mouth watering at the sight of the flesh even though every nerve in his brains was yelling at him to run away. He could feel his right eye surging...it must be reacting to the human pile.
