"Colby! There! Over there!!"
The car halted to a stop right in the middle of the road. Luckily the whole stretch was their's at the moment...and luckily the driver wasn't in a bad mood to begin with or the blondie would have get yelled at for sure!
"Saaaammmmm" Colby stressed out. He sighed very deeply. "For the love of- don't just scream at me like that! Especially when I'm the one behind the wheels!"
"Sorry", the blondie apologized cheekily. His blue eyes shone like pebbles in the shore as he pointed out the car window. "There it is! Our apartment!! Isn't that the one?"
Colby leaned forward to get a better look, bracing himself for a disappointment but alas...that was the one!! That was their home! His wide smile made Sam high fived the air and the car was in motion again, driving slowly up the slopes. Los Angeles was a big city, completely different compared to Kansas, a small town where everyone knew everyone! Well at least some..."Well, this is-" Colby looked around. Their room was small but what made it look bigger was the many mirrors it had. The previous owners must have some kind of mirror fatigue. Sam brought the bags in as his eyes wondered around! He smiled.
"You know, I was kinda needing a mirror of my own!"
"Dude...you're free to choose" Colby laughed. "There's so many and it makes the apartment room look bigger so I'm kinda okay with it".
The boys explored the tiny space whilst waiting for the moving truck to arrive with their beds and couch and stuff. They found many old belongings of the previous owners. There was a hammer that looked to be quite stained at the end. A large mullet and a toolbox with all the tools lay in one corner of an empty room that was meant to be their future sharing bedrooms. An old cupboard stood with the hinges gone and the door just swaying when it suddenly slammed open with such force the door broke and Sam jumped, being the only one left in the room. He turned swiftly, his eyes darting to the thing that had fallen out of the cupboard.
"A doll", he said, picking it up.
"What?" Colby emerged suddenly, scaring Sam again!
"DUDE"
"Sorry"
"Look". Sam threw the doll at Colby and the other boy caught it neatly. He gazed at it for a second before tracing his fingers along the side where the wools had came off. His eyebrows narrowed slightly. "It looked like an animal ripped this thing", he commented matter-of-factly. "Animals aren't allowed in the apartment". This last sentence was more to himself because his voice was barely audible to Sam's ears.
"Well that sucks for the doll", Sam replied. "What do we do with it?"
"It sucks for the little...girl...who owned this doll dude", Colby said before a thin smile formed on his lips. "It looks like one of those voodoo dolls to make a human's life a living misery". His smile grew. "We should of course pledge it to Ol'Scratch himself, hah?"
Sam made questioning look. "Ol...what?!"
Colby walked out of the room, laughing his heart out while Sam followed. He stopped in the middle of the hall before throwing the doll out the sliding window with one swing. Sam gasped and raced forward to see it plummeting down before hitting one of the lower roofs. He turned towards Colby.
"Wha-"
"Satan".
Sam blinked very fast. "What?"
"That thing'll bring us the worst of lucks dude!!" Colby explained, adjusting his hair. "Besides, we have a lot to be done! I can't wait till it's all over and then we can go out and finally eat. I'm starving!!"
Sam sighed, shaking his head. "But we just ate an hour ago".
Colby shrugged. "I...well....that food didn't go well with me...well, whatever. I think I heard the moving van! Let's go!" He caught hold of Sam's sleeve and practically dragged him out and down the elevator in a minute. But Sam knew that Colby was lying about the food...he can always tell when he's lying!
But why?
Moving van? How does he even know that?
But there it was! The moving truck was just pulling over towards the lobby and the tough men were out, unloading their furniture. Colby went over to greet them and thanked them and Sam did all the signing paperwork and documents. Kansas was far away now and night was soon to come. He didn't even noticed the shadow that had been staring at him from the roof across until it disappeared...The ghouls ran opposite each other, their identities safe under their mask. It's been awhile since they last ate but today they heard that someone had committed suicide again and although they did felt a pang of pity, their hunger was even more overwhelming. One was a girl under a cat mask with tiny little bells that would ring in needful purposes and the other was a boy, younger but equally as strong and as present as she was, wearing a mask that gave him the calling 'Phantom' They ran on the roofs, their boots creating air space for them to leap even though they actually don't need it! But just in case...
The boys eyes scanned the cliff below once they reached their destination. His eyes turned red while the sclera turned black as his nose caught a whiff of aroma. The iron rusty smell of a human's blood...
"Found it!" He said with glee, turning to the girl.
"Let's pack him up before someone else claims him!"
