NATHAN'S P.O.V

I let a chuckle escape my lips as I looked over at Jay.

"Are you threatening me?" I asked, a smirk slowly starting to form on my lips.

This was hilarious! He was actually threatening me? Wow.

"That's exactly what I'm doing Nathan."

He was a brave kid, baring in mind he's only 22.

"I will get my family back, whether you're here or not. Beth will realise that she's wasted almost 7 years of her life with you and she'll realise I'm the love of her life." Jay smirked.

Was he for real?

Wow, I was finding this funnier than I should do.

"Jay, she's been with me since she was 16. You know that if she wanted to leave me, she would have done it already?" I chuckled again; obviously Jay wasn't amused by my laughter.

"Don't you dare threaten me, Jay." I said, rising to my feet as he did the same.

Fair enough he was at least a couple of inches taller than me but I really didn't care.

I'd stand up to him no matter what if he ever tried to take Beth off me.

Jay smirked as he stood up against me, gripping my shirt collar as he pushed me hard against the wall. I groaned slightly in pain as my shoulder blades hit the wall.

I glared at him, trying my hardest to resist the urge to punch him back.

I had promised Beth after all.

"Go on then, hit me. Let Grace see what her father is really like." I mumbled as his hands started to clamp down on my throat.

I felt my chest start to get tighter and my breaths shorter every second.

If Jay didn't move his hand soon, it would be a guarantee that I would end up on the floor, passed out.

I gasped in relief as Jay's grip loosened on my throat. I sighed as I caught a glimpse of myself in the reflection of the window, seeing I now had finger shaped bruises forming on my neck. Brilliant.

Beth would be thinking that I'd been fighting with him again, even though for once I'd not done anything wrong.

I shoved Jay away from me, clearing my throat a few time until my breathing resumed back to normal.

"Grace!" I shouted, wanting to get out of this house as soon as possible.

Grace came downstairs, a sweet smile on her face.

"Come on, we're going home." I sighed, picking her up.

Grace pouted, looking over at Jay.

"Why can't I stay?" she asked, her voice becoming barely a whisper.

I sighed, unable to think of an excuse. Jay was her father after all, though half of the time he didn't act like it.

I didn't say anything as I let her down, as she hugged Jay's legs, before I picked her up again, not even bothering to look back at Jay.

Fair enough I found his threats hilarious, but I was actually worried and a little bit scared of him.

He was taller than me, fitter, stronger. Mhm, why wasn't Beth with him?

I shook the thought out of my head as I strapped Grace into her car seat, as she was still clutching a stuff animal to her chest, leaning her head against the window.

I got into the drivers seat, gripping the steering wheel in my fists.

The drive home felt endless, by time I got to our front door I was shattered. I felt like I'd been driving for hours on end, when it really wasn't that long in theory.

Grace was sound asleep when I parked the car and I chuckled to myself as she let out soft snores, continuing to cling to the stuffed animal in her grasp.

I carried Grace inside where I was met by Beth, curled up on the sofa.

I smiled at her, nodding towards Grace so Beth would know not to be loud incase she woke her up.

Beth nodded her head once as I went upstairs, lying Grace in her bed, before shutting the door quietly behind me as I went back downstairs, walking over to Beth and knelt down to her height, pressing my lips against her forehead.

"What are those marks on your neck?" Beth frowned, tracing her fingers down my neck.

I flinched slightly as the started to become painful with every passing minute.

"Jay just... You know," I shrugged, trying to avoid the subject again.

Beth nodded and sighed, knowing that I didn't want to speak about it.

I stood up after kissing her forehead once again, walking to the front door, turning the key as the lock clicked before putting the bolt on the door as well.

"Nathan what are you doing? We never lock the door this early?" Beth chuckled, clearly confused.

I shrugged my shoulders, sighing.

Jay's threats had scared me a lot more than I was letting on.
