Wet snow crunched under the horses' hooves. The arch was dark and quiet. Lina heard Sirge's ragged breath, breathing in and out it was soothing sound compared to the utter quiet which surrounded them before. But now she had some time to think, and her mind was pounding with questions and answers.
‘Who did he come to see? Why did the person want to see him? Why is he going? Why here? Why not a nice coffee shop or library? I've never known him before but why do I feel like.........? What is this feeling?' Lina looked up Sirge turned his to meet her eyes, she knocked him back by turning her head the other way. 'Like I’ve known him? Seen him? Before.....I’m probably overthinking things, maybe I haven’t seen him before but what is this feeling like we are meant to…'
Lina cringed as light blinded her dragging her out of her subconsciousness.
"Ah, it's so bright." Sirge held his hand to shade his eyes. Lina squinted then copied Sirge holding her hand above her eyes.
“Yes, for a placed that looked so dark." Lina replied.
She looked around it was a strange place. Rather than dark and gloomy like outside light beamed into the grove making the snow gleam. She heard chirping from high in the trees but the tree weren’t so overbearing now but like they were happy and singing along with the birds.
"I've been waiting” a gruff manly voice said as a puff of smoke came from the trees. Lina held speed in place but felt as if something was wrong, no not wrong unnerving.
Sirge whispered "leave, go, now".
Lina held firm, "why?" she whispered back. Sirge's eyes flickered between Lina and the disappearing smoke.
"Hold on" the gruff voice said. A figure emerged from the shadows coming closer and closer out of the dark.
It was a man, well a very short man of that. He wore dark grey jeans with holes in it. He was wearing a loose fitting once white t-shirt now grey and brown from mud and dust. The man looked around his thirties. He had a wiry beard and bags under his eyes. His hair was pepper grey and slick. He held a cigarette in one hand. His hand swung up taking another breath of smoke and blow out an 'o'
“I thought, I told you, to come, alone" he growled in between puffs.
"You did, she followed" Sirge jerked his thumb at Lina. Lina was astonished just when she thought he was alright he dobbed her in.
"You never said that" Lina snapped although she knew he had said alone and the phone call had said that too but she was too curious.
"I did" Sirge returned. The man watch for a moment, surpised by the exchange of words between Sirge, a figure he knew well and a girl. The man raised his voice above the two bickering teenagers,
"BE QUIET! And you." His head snapped onto Lina pointing his dirty finger at her.
"I don't care why, I don't care how, I do care the fact you came and found this place. NOW THIS WILL BE YOUR GRAVE!" The man dropped his cigarette burning out on the snow blanket soaking up water. He raised he's hand high above his head and the ground began shaking beneath her threatening to collapse under her.
Speed reared and whinnied almost toppling her off. Lina lost control, Speed was panicking.
"Shh, boy calm down." Lina said scared. She griped hard to Speed's mane the rest of her body flying.
She heard a crack of laughter and Sirge yelling at the man to stop, "What the hell are you doing?". The earth shook behind her as she turned around to escape. An earth wall as high as the trees grew and towered over her. Speed's foot was being sucked into the ground. She was going to be buried alive.
"Enough!" Lina said not in her own voice. Blue light shined out of her eyes, then Speed. The earth stopped shaking and the earth wall crumbled to dust. The man staggered back his eyes wide open
"wha-wha-who are you?" the man stammered. Lina chest was glowing blue getting brighter and brighter.
"How?" Sirge said astonished. Speed and Lina's eyes sweep across the grove then they turned the blue glow dying. The last the heard was crying and a horse's gallop.
