Hailey rushed down the alleyways looking for her friend. Her friend had disappeared after the nightclub and the whole stable staff was out looking for her.  That friend was Lina. Hailey had been the alleys each more than three times and was getting dizzy with confusion. It was as if the alleyways were trying to keep her out, but Hailey didn’t believe in magic and she wasn’t going to start.

She turned around the same counter for the fifth time when she spotted Lina. Lina’s clothes were covered in moss and dirt. She had a huge bruise on her face, purple and swollen, like she had been punched very hard.

She kneelt down beside Lina and started shaking her. Lina groaned and opened her eyes. Her left her was red and dry.

“What happened?” Hailey screamed and Lina opened her eyes.

“Tenji” Lina rasped her voice dry. Everything felt dry to Lina like she had been sun baking.

“Who’s Tenji? I’m going to bash him up for what he did to you” Hailey growled

“No, you can’t, they have magic” Lina grabbed onto the arms of her friend finally waking herself up fully. “And there were vampires last night and werewolves attacked us too.”

“Who is us?” Hailey asked

“And there was a book which teleported us to another dimension!” Lina continued not listening to Hailey “Oh and there are elves and fairies-“

“LINA!” Hailey shouted at her friend “who is us?” she said more quietly

“Sirge and me” Lina said quietly

“I told you to stay away from that boy, he is the one who hurt you right?” Lina remained quiet, she didn’t know if it was him her hurt her it all seemed a bit foggy. She was about to go on about vampires then she stopped; she couldn’t remember what had happened clearly anymore.

“You must have hit you head very hard” Hailey said helping Lina get to her feet. “To come up with ideas of fairies and vampires”

“but-” Lina was going to say it’s true but it melted away. Her supposed memories of the past two days seemed to vanish. “So I just hit my head.”lina stated. Hailey nodded back.

“You have been missing since the nightclub.”

“What but that was when…” it went foggy. “In my dream I was attacked by vampires then.” Lina corrected.

“You were probable attacked then and in your mind you change the situation to vampires, you were always a dreamer.”

“So this whole thing has been a dream?”

“I think so Lina, come on let’s get you home, and fix up that bruise.”

“Oh don’t worry about that, cure” Lina said but nothing happened

“Cure” she said again

“Cure, cure, cure!” she said for the last time but nothing happened. Lina clicked her fingers hoping for water to jump out of them but nothing happened.

“What are you doing?” Hailey asked concerned

“Trying to use my magic” Lina replied

“Lina there is no such thing as magic”

“Yes there is!”

“Lina, do you believe in magic?” Hailey asked. Lina stopped for a moment and pushed herself off Hailey and started walking home by herself muttering.

“Wait is this yours?” Hailey asked picking up a dull sapphire on a silver chain.

“Yes” Lina lied something in the gem seemed alive. Then her mind came clear for an instant

‘This is Aluna’s , the gem Alex talked about’ Lina thought. She nodded to herself and knew what to do.

“the question is not if I believe in magic nor if anyone does believe it magic exists.”

Hailey oped her mouth to stop Lina from continuing but Lina kept talking, her thought getting more powerful the more she said.

“The question is, is there such a thing called magic?”
