It only took us around ten minutes to reach the crime scene. I hopped out of the helicopter and walked quickly to the the police tape and ducked under. Pascal was right behind me.
"I'll interview the guard so you can look for clues." She told me before stepping off a few paces to a disheveled looking man. I walked up to the doors. They were sliding doors but they would have been locked last night. In the lobby, there were scientists and investigators looking around, dusting things, and collecting samples when I entered. I pulled my iPad out of my field bag and went through the guard's patrol log. I then followed the only path possible to the vault without being seen at the time of the break in. I examined the vault. There were no signs whatsoever of forced entry.
These guys were professionals. I walked over to a nearby investigator and asked about the security camera feed. He told me nothing changed or moved anytime during the night. Hackers. They had to be. They must have looped the camera feed. They probably could have unlocked the vault digitally as well. How could the guard have not noticed this? I set off to find Callie and learn more about the guard and his story.
I found her sitting at one of the makeshift tables. I unfolded a chair and pulled it up across from her.
"Hey," I said. "So what did you learn about the night watchman?"
"He's lying. I can tell. It doesn't add up. He seemed nervous telling me. Now what actually happened, I have no idea. I just know it's not what he said."
"Maybe he's just shaken up," I suggested. She didn't look like she agreed. I didn't really believe the guard was telling the truth either. This was all a bit crazy. It didn't seem possible to steal 18 million dollars so easily. There was only one person that could pull this off, two actually. The Stabbington Brothers.
