"Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes

Pretty soon now you're gonna get older.

Time may change me.

But I can't trace time.

I said that time may change me

But I can't trace time"

*Lyla's POV*

*The middle of Summer* (Still in the summer 8th Grade) :b

I was kind of upset that Harry wouldn't be spending time with me this summer, but you know its not his fault. And I'm actually hoping that the football camp he will be attending, will help him academically. He passed this year with a 70. School will only get harder, and below a 70 is failing. I started getting ready. I promised my godmother that I will help her at the animal shelter. I'm basically dedicating my whole summer to taking care of animals. I love animals a lot, and don't mind at all.

I quickly pulled on my 'FU' white t-shirt and black jeans short. I looked in the mirror to check my reflection.

"Mmmm good enough." I shrugged. I grabbed a pear off the kitchen counter top and grabbed my keys.

I knocked on my moms room door to see if she was still home.

"Yeah come in." I heard her mumble. I opened the door.

"Mom are you okay?" I furrowed my eyebrows. She usually leaves at this time. And she is never this quiet in the mornings.

"Yeah." She coughed. "Just coming down with a slight cold."

"At the beginning of summer."

"Tell me about it. I should be out at the shop, not here."

"Maybe its allergies." I joked.

"Don't kid like that. But anyways, I would still go to the floral shop." She snorted.

"Ly fix your hair." She rolled her eyes.

"What do you mean? Its fine the way it is. If I comb out the knots and curls, it'll just turn poofy. And I seriously don't have the time to deal with it right now."

"Would it kill you to put it in a pony tail?" She teased.

"Only you mom. Only you." I went to go hug her.

"I'm leaving. Bye, and don't forget to take that nasty medicine." I winked.

"Yeah, yeah. Don't let the door hit ya on your way out." I heard her call out.

I slipped on my black toms and locked the door. I ambled my way a couple blocks down. I finally reached the animal shelter. I entered and heard a little bell ring.

"Sandra?" I shouted, looking around.

"Yeah back here. We've got a couple of new dogs."

I followed her voice and ended up in the back. I saw she was feed and washing a couple of dogs.

"Hi Sandra." I waved.

"Hello dear. Nice of you to come by and keep that promise." She laughed.

"After I'm done here, would you mind taking them for a walk." She added on.

"That's fine. But I might need some help. Five dogs are a lot for a lazy person." I chucked. I was being truly honest though.

"Some other girls volunteered too. I believe y'all are the same age."

"Now go mingle." She waved me off.

I roamed around the animal shelter. I noticed how this shelter was mostly composed of cats and dogs. But the majority was dogs.

"Layla?" Someone asked behind me.

I turned around to see a group of other girls. I noticed them right away; it was Brooklyn, Rosie, Kiara, and Cassie. We all attend the same school and we are in the same grade, I believe.

"Hey guys. Fancy seeing you here." I smiled.

"What's up?" Kiara questioned with a raised eyebrow.

"Noting much. Just the usual, sleeping, eating, and the occasional walk." I chuckled.

"Would you like to walk the dogs now?" Rosie motioned towards the back.

"Lets go!" Brooklyn cheered. She seems really energetic and excited.

*Couple hours later*

"It was nice seeing you guys again." I gave them all a hug.

"Its surprising that we weren't friends before." Cassie giggled.

"We should hang out sometime." Brooklyn lightly tapped my shoulder.

"Definitely." I assured them.

We parted ways. I strolled on home feeling bubbly inside. My bestfriend is Harry, but it would be nice to have other friends. Now if I ever feel lonely I have a few people I can call. Being an only child can have its perks but also has some cons.

I set foot into our humble home. I see my mom sprawled out on the couch watching 'Keeping Up With the Kardashians.'

"Since when do you watch this show." I laid down on the couch opposite of her.

"This is the first time I am watching this show. Its funny seeing all the drama in this family. They talk like what their saying is of importance when its not." My mom chuckled moving her hands around for extra exaggeration.

"You're sick and eating candy?" I teased her.

"What can I say? I have a sweet tooth."

"But enough about me.......Harry's coming back after a few days." She grinned and looked at me amused.

"Yeah, yeah I know. And don't look at me like that." I warned while pointed my finger at her.

"Don't mind me. I can tell a crush when I see one."

"I have no idea what your talking about. Maybe its time for you to wear glasses."

A/N: There is only like one or two more 'past tense' chapters left. I just need to show how the past changes them into how they act now. Have a good night, morning, or just day depending on where you are! Don't forget to comment and vote. One simple action helps a lot! Oh and I added new people to the cast, tell me your thoughts so far :) Love y'all <3 Peace!
