Lyla laid snuggled up next to her mom. She couldn't help but notice the empty space to her left. That's were her dad slept before the divorce. Lyla wasn't affected greatly by such circumstances, but she couldn't help but miss him. Lyla's mom, Denise, made sure to double the hugs and kisses. Denise's main priority was to keep Lyla happy and healthy. She wanted to raise Lyla to be a carefree, independent and successful young woman. Therefore she moved to New York from England, away from her divorce and issues.

She couldn't move without her best friend though. Anne Cox and Denise Parker were best friends since high school years. Anne was going through her own divorce at the time and briefly thought about moving. Denise persuaded her, it would be a fresh start for the both of them. So they packed their bags, and with both their children, rented an apartment in New York. When they both received jobs and knew they were financially stable, they rented separate apartments. They enrolled their kids, Lyla and Harry, into the same school. It was a Charter School from Pre K-12.

After completing Pre-K together, Harry and Lyla became inseparable. Speaking of which, Kindergarten starts September 10th, and it was the 9th.

"Wake up Ly." Denise yelled frantically looking around the room for an outfit, knowing they were going to be late.

Denise had a habit sleeping in. She stays home all day, thinking of more ways to expand and spread her business. She owns a floral shop across the street.

Lyla softly yawned while rubbing her eyes. She pushed her messy curls out of her face and followed her mom with her eyes, who was scrambling through drawers.

"Mummy, we picked the outfit yesterday remember." Lyla held up her purple fizzie dress.

Denise stopped what she was doing instantly and looked up. It seemed as if realization had hit her as she burst out laughing.

"Oh silly me, let me help you put on the dress." Denise reached out to pick up Lyla.

Denise helped Lyla to take off her pajamas and put on the dress. Denise then put a black headband on her to keep the curls out of her face. Lyla put on her black ballet flats claiming she could do it on her own.

Lyla quickly ate her Coca Puffs (A/N: Its life<3) and put on her sweater. Denise picked up Ly and her car keys while running outside. She put Ly in her booster seat and then started up the car.

"Mummy, will Harry be there to?" Lyla asked while frowning.

"Yes, of course." Denise assured Lyla's worries.

They finally reached their destination; the Leadership Academy Charter School. Denise grabbed Lyla's hand and walked her to her classroom. On the way there they spotted Anne and Harry. Anne was crouched down fixing his hair and tying his sneakers.

"Okay Harry, no funny business. I don't want to hear any complaints from the teachers, okay?" Anne slightly warned Harry.

"Okay." He mumbled. When he looked up he noticed Lyla running up to him.

"HARRY!" She squealed while hugging him.

Harry couldn't help the big smile that crossed his face. He hugged Lyla back.

Denise and Anne stood watching with a look of adoration in their eyes.

"Alright look after each other, yeah?"

"Yeah." They answered simultaneously.

They held unto each others hands while running inside the classroom.

"I have to head to the flower shop. I have a few people that wanted to be hired." Denise zipped up her sweater.

"I am so proud of you. Things are finally starting to look up." Anne smiled while pulling Denise into a hug.

"Thanks, I couldn't have done it without the support. So how are things in the bakery?" Denise questioned while exiting the school.

"Good actually. I was promoted to manager the other day. I now no longer have to drive home with dough in my hair." Anne winked.

"That's great. I'm parked near the corner. I'll catch up with you later."

"Okay see you then."

Mrs. Jones went on and on about the classroom rules. Lyla and Harry paid no attention to her though. They were making jokes and doodling on their papers. Harry drew Mrs. Jones double her size with a mustache. Lyla added on a unibrow and drew Mrs. Jones with a mean look. Harry held up the paper when Mrs. Jones wasn't looking, and Lyla couldn't stop giggling. Mrs. Jones gave them a look, and the joking ceased. Instead they actually began to listen to what she was saying.

A few minutes passed and then it was snack time, and of course Harry and Lyla went back to making jokes and puns. Lyla sat on the carpet next to Harry. Lyla was eating animal crackers and drinking apple juice while, Harry was eating goldfish and drinking fruit punch.

"Hey Ly?" Harry turned slightly to face her.

"Mhm." She hummed.

"Why can't you give Elsa a balloon?"

"Because she'll freeze it?" She asks will scrunching her eyebrows.

"Haha no because she will Let it go." He laughed, his dimples on full display.

"Oh oh I have one." She raised her pointer finger.

"What did Bacon say to Tomato?"

Harry thought for a minute. "I don't know."He finally  answered.

"Lettuce get together." She laughed.

"Wow that's a good one." He laughed with her.

"Nap time!" They heard Mrs. Jones call out.

Harry took Lyla's hand. He's seen so many romance movies, that his mom has watched. He has seen the older boys do it so he did.

Lyla looked at their locked hands.

Harry helped Lyla to stand up. And then walked her to their blankets.

They laid down under their blankets. They fell into a light sleep with their small hands still locked.
