Blithe's POV
The walk to my house is silent, neither of us speak but our shoulders bump occasionally. The need to talk doesn't come up, the mood light as we make our way down the familiar path I've taking for the past six years.
This though, was just an act. Being cool and indifferent because everything was not fine.
Acting doesn't stop my thoughts from going haywire, my heart in my throat as my hands sweat profusely just at mere thought of having Jade in my house. My nerves are on edge when they shouldn't be! For one, we were just two friends going to work on a school project. Hardly a reason for an inner panic going in my head.
'Well, it is the first time Jade is going to your house. Like as in. Alone. Together.' My conscious adds helpfully. Hint, sarcasm.
'Well thanks conscious.' I hiss at myself, always to myself because I'm pretty sure if Jade knew I spoke to myself she'd be running for the hills.
"So."
Jade's low timbre cuts through my thoughts. I turn my head to the side, quirk an eyebrow and give her a look for her to continue.
"How much longer to your house?" She asks, kicking a rock as she walks beside me.
"We're almost there, just around the corner."
I startle when I feel something warm graze my hand and when I look down, I notice it's the brunettes hand. A flutter goes through my stomach and when I look up, hazel eyes are already staring back at me.
She smiles, the corners of her eyes crinkling as she hooks her pinky with mine. This is it. I have died and gone to heaven. I must be dreaming is the first thought that crosses my mind, followed by Holy fuck! is this real?
Jade looks undisturbed by the fact that we are basically holding hands, (Okay, pinkies but its basically the same thing!) so I try to calm down and pretend my heart isn't lodged in my throat.
That is until the familiar rusty mailbox comes into view, then another set of nerves settle deep in my bones and not in the previous ways, like when it comes to Jade. A niggling sensation in the back of my head has me pulling my hand away from Jades.
Fear outways the regret of letting such an opportunity got to waste but not by much.
I ignore my bestfriends inquisitive look by speed walking up my driveway until I reach the front door, basically leaving Jade behind. I grab my keys from my bag, hearing her footsteps getting closer as I unlock the door. She's by my side by the time I open the door so I step aside to let Jade inside. All the while avoiding the older girls curious eyes.
"So, this is my house." My voice sounds strained even to my own ears, Jade gives me another considering look before she hums and makes her way inside, her eyes roaming about the various pictures on the walls. She stops infront a particular photo of me grinning at the camera, shirt wet and hair a sopping mess as I show off the first fish I ever caught.
"You fish?" She asks, eyes still on the picture. Mortification is the only reason I push her further down the hall, where there are no embarrassing pictures in sight. Jade takes it all in stride as I basically manhandle her, smiling and chuckling along the way.
