Picture of Dylan in Multimedia------
Sorry if this is a little slow at first. I gotta build up the characters and such before we get into the good stuff. Shouldnt be too long.
Dylan's POV
"Clearly my fire skills are superior!" said Jace.
"Uhhhh excuse me? Water is the best element!" Jade said proudly.
"No no no. Earth is the strongest." boasted Jonathan.
Jack sighed. "Screw all of you. I could freeze all of you so quick you'd...."
"Without air none of you fools would even be alive. Right Dylan?" Jess said.
The quintuplets were arguing again over whose powers were best. I brought the rocking chair to a stop to sip on some lemonade. They had the powers of the elements. Jace is a pyro-kinetic, Jade is aqua-kinetic, Jonathan is terra-kinetic, Jack is cyro-kinetic, and Jess is aero-kinetic.
"Well..." I paused.
"Which one of you can turn into a tiger?"
"I have to admit that is pretty cool." Jace said.
I dont even know why I jumped into the conversation. I usally dont talk much, even when I'm around others like me. Its hard for me to trust others and who could blame me? I've been on the dangerous streets of San Juan, Puerto Rico since I ran away when I was six. Marquez' House for Peculiar Children, thats what we called it but to everyone else in the world it was just a creepy mansion where the "freaks" lived. It was for weirdos, freaks, misfits, and outcasts like us. Children whose parents didn't want them or were afraid of them, and kids who had no place in this world.
My heightened senses allowed me to smell rain and the sky was turning gray.
"Hey let's head inside" I said
"Yeah I sense a storm coming." Jess said.
"Plus it's time fo dinner!" Jack rubbed his tummy.
I walked in to the old spanish mansion and smelled Mrs.Marquez' famous secret stew.
"Dylan help me out here mija." she called out.
Ever since I came here she'd call me mija which in spanish meant my daughter. I've never felt loved by anyone and for her to call me that made feel like she actually cared. But I know she doesnt. No one does.
I said nothing as usual and started chopping tomatoes.
"My daughter and my two grandaughters are going to be arriving at the airport today. Would you mind driving me to the airport after dinner?" she said
I nodded silently,
"Great! I think you will really like my grandaughters. One of them, Maura, is a year younger than you. Seventeen I think? Oh its been years since I've seen them and little Lucinda will be here too!"
See? They are her real family and she doesnt need me.
"Dylan? Why would you say that?"
Shit. I always forget she can read minds.
"Because its true." was all I said.
She grabbed me by the arms and pulled me into a hug.
"Dylan this is your family now. You dont have to worry about.....about that gang anymore, they cant hurt you here. And I love you like my own daughter."
I furiously wriggled out of her embrace.
"I appreciate all that you have done for me. But you do not have to pretend to care. Its rather cruel. Not that I care." The oven timer went off and I went upstairs to my room before she could say anything else.
