Maura's POV
Picture of Maura on the side in multimedia-----
I turned the music up on my ipod as some annoying kid ran up and down the aisles of the airplane.
I've been on this stupid plane, on this stupid trip, with these stupid people for hours.
I sighed and glanced over at my little sister Lucinda. Luce for short.
She's adorable when she sleeps. Like a little fox all curled up in her baby blue blanket. I noticed her seatbelt wasn't on and reached over gently to click it on when my mom hissed at me.
"Maura can you hear me?" I pulled out my headphones.
"What."
"Drop the attitude young lady. I want you to at least act like your interested when we go to see your Grandmother. Aren't you excited? You haven't seen her in 7 years."
"Oh I'm excited to see her, I just don't want to be there with you."
"Maura I know this new job has been hard on you..."
"No it hasn't. Im used to you not being there but Luce isn't. You dont have to be there for every music recital and help her on every school project but would it kill you to take an hour out of your "busy" day to come see your 5- year-old daughter graduate kindergarten?"
"Sweetie you know Joe has me work overtime and..."
"Yeah mom. Im sure your late nights at the office are so tiring, after all Joe is a big guy. It must take a lot out of you to swallow his gigantic peni..."
SLAP!
I gripped my now burning face and Luce started to stir awake.
"Maura I-" I wouldn't let her say sorry.
"I hate you."
I stared out the window and pressed my red cheek to the window which was cold from the storm outside. The clouds were turning darker....
All of the sudden the plane jerked and Luce rolled onto the floor.
Shoot. I forgot to buckle her in.
The plane started to shake.
"Attention ladies and gentlemen. Please return to your seats. We have received reports of severe weather. We will be performing a emergency landing immeadiately. Please remain calm."
The little seatbelt sign above me lit up.
"What's going on?" Luce asked groggily.
I glanced outside and the sky was black as night as winds jerked the plane around. As we got closer to the ground I saw water. A LOT of water. And there were objects moving around rapidly.
"What the.."
As one of the objects moved closer I realized it was a tree.
A big
ass
tree.
Headed straight for us.
"Luce! Get in your seat now!"
Too late. The tree flew straight into the plane propellar and sent Luce flying across the aisle.
"Maura my foot is stuck!" she screamed.
I unbuckled my seat belt as the lights went out and we started crashing towards the ground. People we grabbing luggage and stepping on one another. The air bags were deployed and and running man got his neck caught in one. As I tried to get to her the escape door flew open and people and luggage were sucked outside. I gripped one of the seats and wind ripped through the plane. My fingers began to slip...
"Maura!" my mom screamed.
She reached for me.
"No!"
If she reached for me she would have to let go of Luce.
"Maura NO!" Luce's tears streaked her face and my mom reached again.
I had to let go or mom would try to save us both.
My fingernails shredded the seats as i tried to hold on for just a little longer. Everything moved in slow motion as I let go. Luce's big sad eyes. Mom's shocked face. Flying luggage. The annoying kid holding onto his dad for dear life. The flight attendants banging on the cockpit door. The man being strangled to death by the air masks.
I closed my eyes and prepared for death.
