"Wait here, Sam," he says, "I'm going to check if anyone is here."
I stand by the short tree he leaves me by, still close to him, as he checks the windows and peeks inside for any activity going on. There seems to be nothing, so he waves his hand to tell me to come to his side.
"Just stay quiet, okay?", he whispers.
I nod my head, still scared to speak or even make a slight noise that could alert anyone. Everything seems so still and quiet, as if we're the only two here. Something in my gut is telling me that we aren't alone, but how would we know?
The cabin's door is cracked open, but not fully, enough for us to sneak in without making a sound. E closes the door behind him. We look around, searching for anything we could use, once again. No food, no water, nothing. All of the cabinets are empty, someone must have been here already.
We sit on the couch, trying to calm down and collect ourselves. I keep asking myself when this is going to end. I start to drift off as I lay on E's chest, listening to him breathe.
"Would you be mad if I tried to sleep for a bit..?", I ask.
He gives me a small smile and tells me, "Of course not, you need it more than I do. I'm here, don't worry."
I smile back, so grateful to be in the arms of someone who protects me so well, able to feel safe for a bit.
"Thank you..", I whisper back, still smiling, barely able to keep my eyes open.
