Lily Snape woke up beside her husband early that morning. She was excited, whereas he wasn't, but after his long chat with his wife and with Albus, he agreed to become the Potions Master again for Petunia, after getting assurance from Lily that she would assist him and her sister for some of the lessons, just in case they argued during the teachings.
"Today's the day, Sev." smiled Lily cheerfully.
"Yes, get ready then, Lils." said Severus, in a voice that showed he cared about Petunia's studies of magic for Lily's sake.
Lily, appreciating Severus' co-operation, kissed him lovingly and together they got ready to go and as they came to a door which led back to Heaven Hogwarts, they set off through without hesitation, little knowing of the chaos that was on the other side.
As soon as they crossed through, they were bombarded by James and Lily Potter. The latter looked very desperate.
"Is Tuney with you?" she cried piteously.
"No." gasped Lily Snape, suddenly frantic, "Isn't she with all of you?"
"No, she's missing." cried Lily Potter.
Just then, Sirius burst into the Headmaster's office, which was where Severus and Lily had come in through their door. He looked sorrowful.
"Petunia left a letter." he said, with Remus and Tonks behind him.
"What does it say?" asked James.
Sirius reluctantly read the letter:
Dear sisters,
I'm so grateful for what you've done for me and I can never repay you enough for making me feel a part of your world. But I feel confused right now. Vernon still hates magic and he's my husband. I'm not sure I can leave him after all we've been through together. I'm going back home to see if I can find a way for us to be happy altogether. I don't know when I'll be back, if at all. If not, I am so sorry. Please forgive me, just as you have before.
Your grateful and once again loving sister,
Tuney.
After Sirius had finished, he, Severus and James watched sadly as the two Lilys looked sadly at each other and cradled each other as they cried.
Remus and Tonks left the room with Sirius.
"Peter went to tell Albus. He may know if there's anything we can do." said Sirius.
"But this is Petunia's choice." said Remus, "Albus can't force her to come back again. No one can."
"He got her here once, he can do it again." said Sirius.
"Why do you care so much, Sirius?" asked Tonks, "I didn't think you liked the idea of Petunia being here with Lily, after the way she treated Harry."
Sirius blushed and said nothing. But it was clear to Remus and Tonks and respectfully kept their own silence.
Albus had arrived in the office where the two Lilys, James and Severus were still standing. He looked from Severus, saddened to see his wife upset once again, to James, filled with pity for his wife and indignant feelings towards the absent Petunia, and then to both Lilys Potter and Snape, still holding each other in sorrow.
"Peter has explained." he said.
"What can you do?" asked Severus.
"Nothing." said Albus regrettably, "This was her choice and for all you know, she will come back with Vernon in tow."
