i think life would be a lot easier
if the masks we wear everyday were visible.
whenever someone starts pretending,
his face would be partially covered by an elegant soft plastic mask,
like those worn at carnivals,
and we would know this isn't the real him.
we wouldn't be fooled
or shocked
or hurt
when we are hit by reality.
