Chapter 2: Nap Time

"You know, you look like your old self when you go to sleep."

Rubbing her eyes with the back of her hand, Sophia winced when she erected her back to stretch. "Define old self," she yawned. "I'm like a butterfly: I have different stages."

Lucas snorted, plopping his body next to the blonde. "I think you need a better similie. I think you're more of a moth or man eating owl." He swung his arm around her shoulder and pulled her closer. "Now that I'm thinking about it you're more of a praying mantis."

"Again with the compliments."

The green eyed man grinned cheekily. "I'm the master of flattery."

"Not even," Sophia muttered, shaking her head back and forth. Her eyes fluttered to the window to see that the sky wasn't as bright as she was expecting. "How long was I asleep for?"

"A couple hours. It's around 5 o'clock right now. I took care of our shop for the day. It was pretty slow today so I got pretty bored. I think we should hire some new workers for the upcoming holiday season," Lucas said. "I don't want to have to relive what went down last year." To emphasize his point Lucas shuttered in disgust.

'I wouldn't mind going back to last year,' Sophia thought. Last year was nearly perfect: no yelling, no crying, no fighting, and no staying up til the peak of dawn. Last year she was able to go back home from a long day at work and snuggle up to Chase.

She didn't even bother to voice out her thoughts because it was all pointless now.

A little ding interrupted her thoughts. Sophia quickly searched around for her cell phone. Once she spotted it she turned it on and checked her new message.

Chase Knight: I can't pick you up. Overtime. Don't bother waiting for me.

Short and sweet. More like clipped and cold. But that's Chase for Sophia. That's how he is now.

Sophia shrugged the arm off of her shoulder to lean forward and rest her head on her curled up knees. Running a hand down her face, she cussed. Slowly she turned her head towards the man next to her her and gave him a half grin. "Lucas..."

"Sophia..." Lucas mimicked her voice, trying to lighten up the mood that shifted. He didn't want to deal with it right now. "You need a favor, don't you?" He raised his eyebrows.

The good thing about being best friends was that Sophia could easily catch on what he was doing. Sophia really had two options: go home with Lucas or take the sketchy bus ride to the stop a half mile from her house. She had to weigh out her two option because there was always a deal that had to be made with the Frenchman."Do you mind giving me a ride home?" She asked, jutting her bottom lip out and widening her eyes.

"Has anyone ever told you that you're lips look just so kissable? Like you have this natural pout to your lips that make you look like a begger. You know us men, we love it when women beg," Lucas teased. "I'm feeling pretty lazy right now..."

"Lucas, please! Do you know what I had to go through when you were gone? Weird people take the bus at this time. I swear, if you don't say yes, then I'll take the pepper spray from my bag and use it against you," Sophia whined.

"You're no fun to tease anymore," he grunted. "Fine, I'll take you. But before you can jump in glee, you have to have a dinner with me. Think of it as a date-"
