"Daniella, I'm surprised you are dauntless. I would think you would have chosen to be with your father or erudite." She looks over at me.
"To be with that monster? No thanks. He isn't my father. He will never be. I chose my home."
"All they do is teach you how to be a killer." She mutters.
"That's what you think Evelyn, but really they're teaching me to defend myself against Psychotic people like Marcus and Samual." I grit my teeth.
"You have no idea what I am who I can be. I was the first rank initiate. They want me to be a dauntless leader along with Jade."
"Don't be naive, they don't want a new leader, they want a pawn they can manipulate. That's why Jeanine Matthews frequence dauntless headquarters, that's why she keeps planting minions and your faction to report on their behavior. You haven't noticed that she seems to be aware of things she has no right to be aware of, that they keep shifting dauntless training around, experimenting with it? That's if dauntless would ever change something like that on their own." It was silent four was thinking hard. I shouldn't say anything about what Eric has told me but a little something with hurt. Neither would a small white lie.
"Jeanine isn't doing anything wrong." I say aloud. Both four and Evelyn stare at me.
"She is helping our city but keeping it on the down low. I know this because Eric, an erudite transfer has talked with her in the past. I'm not allowed to talk about it, he wasn't even suppose to say something to me but he did."
"Helping the city? Is that what that book nerd told you?" I hold up the gun.
"Don't insult him. You miserable factionless scum."
"Jeanine is creating a war between the factions." She holds her hands up.
"No she is not!" I shout. The gun shakes in my hands as I walk in front of her pressing the gun to her head.
"You think you know everything but you don't! You think you know what is best for everyone. You don't. Jeanine is getting rid of the threats to out city, that is divergents and factionless. Factionless is growing and divergents are being common to each faction. Eliminate the threats." I smirk at her.
"Jade." Four pulls me away from Evelyn but I don't lower the gun. In fact I hold it steady.
"Even if you're right about dauntless, I would never join you. I never want to see you again." Four interrupts my argument. I wasn't finished but whatever. I made a point.
"I don't believe you."
"I don't care what you believe." Four snaps and turns to walk back to the compound.
"If you change your mind any message given to one of the factionless will go to me." Four continues walking. I walk back still pointing the gun at her. There was no need for it but to make sure she didn't try anything funny. We make it back to the compound. Silence. The only sound was our footsteps.
"Thanks. It means a lot." He sighs.
"Don't mention it." I shove the gun in my waist band.
"Never thought she was alive." We walk down a tunnel to the apartments.
"Me either. A lot of people didn't. Now what to say to Eric?" I rub my tired eyes.
"Lie." Four says automatically.
"I can't." He wants me to lie to Eric? I cant do that.
"You can't tell him about Evelyn, Marcus or my life." He stops pulling on my wrist roughly.
"Four." I sighed. I am too tired for this and certain Eric is not letting me sleep unless I explain to him everything.
"You can't." The grip he had on my wrist tightened every few seconds. Leaving bruises on me and cutting off circulation blood flow.
"Four, you are hurting me." I yelp in pain. I snatch my hand back pulling it close to my chest.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean." He started then looks at his hands clenching them.
"Its ok. I will tell him what he needs to know. Nothing else. You honestly can't expect me to do something with you without Eric being wary about it. Anything that has to do with you, Eric needs to know. Especially if it involves me and I'm going somewhere with you alone. You have to understand that at least." He nods his head.
"I do understand it's just, I don't want nobody to know about Tobias. I'm Four from dauntless. Tobias is dead, back with abnegation."
"Eric won't say anything to anybody. We don't talk to anybody. Other than each other. Even if he did say something it would only be directed to you or me. Unless you hurt me or him. Then he will say something to somebody."
"Alright. Go get some sleep, we can talk about this tomorrow. You can tell him what you need." Four comes up and hugs me.
"Hey, four?" I whisper in his shoulder. He hums.
"I miss this." Intended for the hug. It's not a lie, I do miss Four. Not really Four, more like Tobias.
"I do too. Get some sleep." He breaks the hug as I walk to my apartment.
I was exhausted. I hope Eric is asleep so that way I can tell him everything in the morning. I'm too tired to even walk as my legs wobbled all over the place on the tunnel. I turn the key in the door and stumble into he apartment. I go straight into the bed. Eric was fast asleep snoring his head off. I snuggle up into the covers as Eric turns around and puts his arm over my waist. I knew that everything I had to explain to him was going to be tough. In order to tell why i had to go you have to let some of the information out that wasn't supposed to be, but he needs to know. It's not like I can tell some of the information and Eric to be okay with it. He's an erudite transfer in dauntless. He's going to know when I'm lying and when the truth is told. He's going to know if I'm holding back information. He's too smart, but I am smarter.
