3.-Cabin Fever

Alden helped Maine get into the black car her Dad prepared for them, he then looked at her face and saw nothing but sadness and concern. 

 "I won't let anything happen to you" he uttered as a way of comforting her. 

 "I don't need you!, I need my father" Maine replied in an unforgiving hostile tone that would make any guy in his right mind be weary of her. Alden just took a deep breath while trying his bets to secure her. After he's done, the newly hired personal security guard got on the car and drove away. 

 He knows exactly what Maine feels like because he went through an almost similar situation. Alden lost his mother a couple of years ago after a group of robbers invaded their home. His mother fought back to them and so they shot her right in front of his eyes. 

Alden is not over her death yet, and he doesn't think he ever will. 

 After a few minutes of silence, Maine asked if there's a pillow on the passenger seat. Alden looked beside him and saw a small black one. He then reached for it and gave it to her afterwards. He then caught a glimpse of Maine through use of the mirror as she buried her face on the black pillow. 

"Let it all out" he told her. 

 "What?" Maine asked, raising her head.

 "Let all the pain out ... it will help you heal"

 "What do you know? You're a jerk with no game"

 "Just because I tried to hit on you earlier doesn't mean that I am a complete jerk. I'm on my job .. and I'm serious" Alden replied before taking a turn towards the mountains. Every now and then he looks at the rear view mirror to see if there's any sort of vehicle that is following them ... thankfully, the coast is still clear for them. 

"Whatever" that's all Maine answered to him before going silent again. 

Due to her not talking, Alden was able to drive peacefully. But the silence they're in right now is not peaceful at all. There's someone out there that wants to end her life, and Alden has to do his best for that to not happen. He will protect her with his life if he has to. 

 As soon as he felt that the road is starting to get rough, he knew that the cabin is getting nearer. After about fifteen minutes, the small wooden house came into his view. He pulled up on the side before he looked at Maine. She's  sleeping after all the exhaustion she felt. 

 The lad got out of the car and went to the backdoor of the cabin in order to turn on the lights. The cabin of Mr. Mendoza is equipped with it's electric supply system that is connected to the main road even though it's more than a kilometer away. It also has a generator that would be very helpful for the both of them if they're gonna have to stay here for a long time. 

 After setting up the place, he walked back outside again only to see all of the car doors open. "Shit!" eh uttered as he rushed to the vehicle. Alden was able to let out a sigh of relief after seeing Maine sitting on the back. 

 "I thought someone took you" he told her but she did not reply. Maine instead walked out of the car and went straight to the cabin. 

"Lord please give me the patience" Alden whispered before rolling his eyes at her.

Maine wasn't able to sleep properly and so she had no other choice but to spend most of the night sitting in her room crying about her mother's death. To make things worst, the signal in the area is not that good therefore she can't even go online to check on the news about her family. Aside from that, she is also prohibited from calling other people as there's a possibility she'll be traced. 

The young girl got out of her room and saw a set of breakfast foods on the table. Maine read the note that Alden left on the side of her plate. 

 "I'll be at the lake" 

 Maine got curious, she did not see the lake last night. Out of curiosity, Maine got outside and walked towards the nearest tree she can take a hold on. 

 With one single look, she saw Alden emerged from the water. Maine got to see his rocking body, the toned chest and abs that can make any girl weak. He is unaware that she's there staring at him. Alden then turned his back on her, unknowingly letting Maine see the muscles that trailed all the way down to the dimples located at the very bottom of his spine. 

 There's no more denying that he's hot, and Maine realized that it in a very unconventional way. After standing there for a few more minutes, Maine went back to the cabin ... unaware that Alden saw her.

 It took him about 10 minutes to dry himself and get dressed. After that, Alden walked back to the cabin only to see Maine eating the foods he cooked for her. 

 "How are you?" he asked. 

 "I want to go home"

 "You know you can't do that"

 Suddenly, her phone started ringing. Maine answered it and Alden hear her father's voice as loud after she turned the speaker on. 

 "Hello Daddy?" she asked. 

 "Hi Maine , how are you?"

 "We're safe here ... what about you?"

 "I'm on my way to a hiding place .... honey please understand that I did not send you away just because I want to. You will never be safe with me around"

 "But Daddy ..."

 "Maine trust me on this ye? I will do everything to bring justice to your mother's death. They will not get away with this. Is Alden in there?"

 "Yes sir" he answered and so Maine looked at him. 

 "Please take care of my daughter"

 "I will"

  Then out of nowhere, the two heard gunshots on the other end of the line. "I have to go honey. I love you. bye!" her father told her as the call ended. Maine started freaking out again, Alden is trying his best to make her calm down but it's not working. 

 She only stopped after they both heard weird noises outside. 

 "What's that?" she asked as Alden quickly grabbed his gun and signaled her to go inside her room. "I want to stay here" she told him. 

 "Fine but if it's them .. run to the back alright?"

 "Alright"
