You're My Princess || maiden au

VI.- Keep You Alive -

 Alden already prepared himself for that moment. He somehow knew that he was going to die, he's not fine with it ... but he also came to the terms that he has no other choice. Much to his surprise, she didn't shoot him.  Instead, their captor actually backed off and started eyeing them again.

"Is she crazy?" Maine asked him.

"I think so. We have to free ourselves as soon as possible." he replied.  The young guy tried squeezing his hands out of the ropes but he can't. His heart is still pounding, and it will continue to pound until they become safe ... or dead.

"Come on Mother. Kill one of them." he heard Jack say.

"Dude, we're friends. Is any of that even real?" he asked, determined to know the truth. Alden really treated Jack as his friend, that's why him turning out to be the son of the woman that is now trying to kill the love of his life still comes off as a shock.

"Yes it was ... that friendship was real ... up until I realized her connection to you .. you know what? her uncle could have been my stepdad ...  I ... I would finally have a family ... but you took that away ...  you killed my hope Alden ... and for that, the two of you must die."

"You're fucked up." Maine commented.

"Yes I am ... what do you fucking want for figuring that out? a medal?" Jack asked her.

'Leave her alone Alden ... please. I killed him ... you're supposed to be mad at me .. not her." Alden uttered, hoping to divert the attention back to him and save Maine from any further trouble. 

"Yeah dude .. but she's the reason why you killed him. Hence, the root is her."

"No ... please ... please .. mate listen to me ... this is not her fault okay?

"Fuck you dude! shut up!" Jack yelled. Alden noticed that Maine is shaking hard, he can tell she' more scared now than before.

"Jack, that's enough!" Evelyn screamed and so he kept quiet.

Alden continued begging for Maine to be spared but a gun was once again pointed at him.  He stopped and just watched as the mother and son tandem talk it out. He looked at Maine and saw her horrified expression.  The young guy then turned his view on the windows of the warehouse and realized they can escape once they free themselves from the ropes.

"You know what? You two are lucky ... we're going to keep you alive for now."

"Mom, why?" Jack asked.

"Honey, so we can torture them." Evelyn replied. Jack then started giving the two a very sinister smile.

"Okay? Now .. let's leave them here ... we'll just make sure we lock the doors. And oh ... you two are not getting any meals tonight." Evelyn told them before she and Jack walked away.

"Now what do we do?" Maine asked him as soon as they were left alone. Her hands are still shaking, she's trying her best to control herself but that becomes more and more impossible as each second passes by.

"We escape .. try your best to squeeze those hands out of the rope" he replied and so she did. Maine tried her best to make the ropes less tighter. When she felt like they're loosing up, she told Alden about it.

"Sit right behind me, I'll try my best to free you." he told her and so she followed that instruction. Maine is taking a succession of deep breaths, she can't keep herself calm enough.

Just a few moments after, Alden was able to free her. Maine then immediately got up and started untying him. 

After being able to do so, the two headed to the nearest window.

"It's fucking locked. Check every single one." Alden told her. Maine ran from window to window to see if they can be opened.

"Shit, they're all locked." Maine told him. She's scared again, a part of her still thinks that today is the day they'll die.

Maine looked at him and saw that he's carrying a chair.

"They'll hear us." she warned.

"Yeah, but we have to do it or else we won't make it out alive." he replied. Maine took a couple of steps back and grabbed a metal bar just as Alden threw the chair on the window. It rboke right away and made a quite loud noise.

Using the metal bar, Maine got rid off the jagged pieces that can wound them.

"Get out, now!" Alden yelled at her and so she did. Maine squeezed her tiny body on the window and was quickly able to get out. Alden followed her. But as soon as the two of them got outside, one of the guys that are supposedly guarding the door saw them.

"Shit ... Maine ... run!" Alden yelled. He held her hand and they sprinted away as fast as they can.

"Don't look back." she told him.

The two entered the woods, they're still running and dodging bullets at the same time.

"Don't stop running!" he told her.  At one point, Maine actually tripped on a thick root. Alden had to carry her in his arms just so they won't get caught. If he's being honest, Alden has no idea where they're going. All he knows is  that they have to get away from here as fastest and as furthest as possible.

A few minutes later, they reached the clearing. Maine got down to her feet and continued running. But much to their surprise, the road got cut. Alden realized that they're in a cliff ... it's a dead end with nothing but the ocean beneath.

"Shit .. we're dead." Maine said, still panicking. He can hear the guys that are after them, they're very near. Maine suggested that they do a U-turn but Alden doesn't wanna risk being caught.

"Then what do we do?" she asked him.

"We'll jump."

"What? hell no!"

"It's that or we die." he replied.  Their conversation was then interrupted by a gunshot. Alden glanced at his side and saw the guys closing in on them.

"We have to jump ... now!" Alden yelled before he grabbed her by the hand. He and Maine stood right on the edge before they jumped.

The next thing he felt is the cold water enveloping his body. His heart dropped, it felt like every ounce of air in his body was removed.

It took him a moment to reach the surface. And as soon as he did, he looked for Maine. But she's nowhere to be found.

"Maine? Maine!?" he asked. Alden did a complete 360 degree turn and finally saw something that made him horrified. The water is turning red and Maine's body is right on its center.

"No ... shit shit!" he pulled her body close to him and saw that she got shot on her lower right stomach.

"Maine no .... no ...."
