You're My Princess || maiden au

5.-Fight Song-

 The morning after, as soon as they finished eating breakfast , Alden and Maine went out for a quick morning walk. It's been a few days since that fateful night happened and thankfully, Maine is finally starting to adjust to her situation. 

Alden can't help but look at her every now and then just to make sure that she's still holding on. And when he noticed that she's nowhere near alright. He asked her if she wants to see something beautiful. 

 "Yes" she replied and so he guided her towards the clearing. As soon as they were out of the woods, Alden and Maine saw the beautiful sun that is about to rise. The ray's warmth is enough to fight the cold temperature that they are experiencing. 

 "This is pretty" Maine admitted. 

 "I brought you here for a reason" Alden uttered and then looked at her. 

 "What is it?"

 "Sunrise can also symbolize hope. As long as the sun rises every morning then there's a reason for us to live ... there's a reason for you to still live. I think it also means that after the dark of the night .. light will come once again ... same with life, it can't always be that bad. There has to be good somewhere in the end"

 "You seriously have to stop believing in fairy tales" she replied. 

 "Fine ... okay so for a more realistic approach ... do you wanna learn how to fight?"

 "Yeah"

 "Come on follow me"

Maine followed Alden to the back lot of the cabin where there's two erected poles and dart targets in it. "Do you know how to fire a gun?" he asked. 

 "Do I look like I fight?"

 "Then the answer is no ...  move" Alden uttered before standing beside Maine. He then brought ou his gun and fired two shots at the target. They both hit bulls eye. 

 "You're good" Maine said, pretty impressed. 

 "Do you wanna learn how?"

 "Yes"

 Alden then gave Maine then gun. "First is take position" he uttered and so she did. "Legs apart"

 "What?" she asked, confused. 

 "Put your legs apart so you have more balance"

 After doing so, Maine raised her arms and put her finger on the trigger. Alden was about to say something but she got excited and pulled it. The impact of the bullet leaving the gun knocked Maine backwards, thankfully Alden was there to catch her. Maine then looked at him and realized that their faces are only inches apart. With her heart racing fast, she slowly stood up.

 "I ... I told you to be careful" he told her and so she nodded. Maine then did the same position but this time she felt Alden stand behind her. "Don't shoot just yet" he whispered before extending his arms so he can reach hers. 

 "Count 1 to 3"

 "1.....2......3" 

 Another shot has been fired by her and this time it hit the target. Maine then looked at Alden and smiled. Getting uncomfortable by it, he walked away ... much to her confusion. Maine then dropped the gun and followed him . 

 "Hey!" she called out but he just continued walking off. frowning, Maine just went back inside the cabin. 

A couple of hours have passed, and she heard something outside. Maine peeked through the window and saw Alden removing his shirt and pants ... ending up half naked. Maine then watched as he took a deep breath and jumped on to the cold lake. Maybe this is his way of thinking clearly .. he has to be wet. 

 Maine just stood there while watching Alden swim on the lake. She knows that there's no place for love in a situation like this but if they do live together for the next three more weeks ... then she's screwed.

Alden had to walk away from Maine in order to control himself. Nothing can happen between them ... he can't abuse his job. He's here to be her bodyguard ... not to be her boyfriend. After taking a swim, Alden then gathered his clothes on the lakeside and started walking back to the cabin. 

 As soon as he got back to the porch, he heard weir noises again. Alden looked around .. trying to identify where the noise is coming. His heart dropped after realizing that it's an incoming vehicle. Despite wearing nothing but his boxer, Alden ran inside the cabin and closed the door and windows. 

 "What's happening?" Maine asked. 

 "Someone's coming ... be ready"
