Allison's POV
*Flashback*
I stood there, my mouth agape. I couldn't comprehend nor process what I had just witnessed. My mother had just destroyed one of my most sentimental paintings of Alex, our old neighbour and my best friend.
He was only 15 when cancer had took his life. We were inseparable ever since we were born in the same hospital. Our mothers were also close. Alex's mum had helped mine, who at the time was a new mum. People had always expected us to stay inseparable, till death do us part. I guess we did, minus the marriage and kids.
The painting was created merely from a memory of Alex and me during one of our spontaneous ventures. We had found a spring creek in our forest.
The creek sped over rocks, meandering its way through the forest, bending to the curves of mother earth. The grass was somewhere between dead and alive. The heat of the summer was slowly fading away but there were enough rays to keep us warm. The sunlight streamed in waves, dodging and coursing their way through the branches and cascading down upon us flowing from our hair to our feet illuminating the dark crevices we only shared with each other. The tall willowy trees encompassing us, like warriors keeping us safe, our moment safe.
I couldn't believe she had so effortlessly and swiftly annihilated my painting and this one out of all of them. There was a glint in her eyes almost as if she enjoyed it. His death was only quite recent and I thought my heart couldn't possibly break anymore, boy was I wrong. This painting was a memory, a memory that kept him alive.
*Flashback ends*
My mum had killed the painting and much more with it. Alex, my heart and my ability to paint.
