Allison's POV

*Flashback*

"Thanks for dinner Mary" I said whilst leaving the dining room.

"No problem, darling. Ring the intercom if you need anything" she replied, whilst hastily trying to clean up before my mum returned, she was a clean freak.

I took the stairs three at a time and entered my room.

I groaned as I saw all the homework on my desk just waiting to rip me apart.

I finished the last part of my essay for English just as I heard my mum shout

"Honey, Li I'm home.

My mum had returned from work.

I jogged to the landing to greet her back and saw a disheveled version of my mum which was so unlike her.

She was pulling down her pencil skirt, whilst smiling at me with her not so glossy red lipstick, which was smeared around her lips and chin.

"Hey mum, how was work?"

"Oh just the usual, where's your father?"

"In the study room" Mary replied for me.

"Thanks love" Mum smiled and went off to find my dad.

I noticed her forced smile. I wonder what was going on between them. They may not have liked each other, but they were always civil towards one another.

"You alright darling?" Mary directed towards me.

"Yup, actually I'm feeling quite peckish, could you bring me some cookies and milk please?" I gave her my puppy eye look in which she returned a chortle of laughter.

"Of course I can Hun" she grinned at me, her premature wrinkles showing.

I had just signed out of twitter when I heard my parents voices. They were arguing, again. They thought I didn't catch on to their recent arguments but this house just wasn't completely sound proof.

I walked down the hallway and sat on the top step of the stairs, the study room was ajar. It seemed like it was getting to the end of their argument as they had their stare down so I started to walk down the hallway back to my room whilst still leaning on the bannister because I could hear Mary coming and I was meant to be asleep or at least getting ready to.

My father slapped my mother.

I stood there, dumbfounded.

It was like time had frozen and everyone was on pause, not even breathing.

She turned around to meet my eyes but hers were full of tears.

She walked out of the room with the little dignity she had left, but her head still held straight.

I shut and squeezed my eyes till I saw blue.

She slammed the door behind her, with finality.

Just like that she was gone.

Gone.

My brain snapped back to its senses. I forgot all about pretending to be asleep, I sprinted down the halllway and stumbled down the stairs, I wasn't usually this clumsy.

My mind racing, confused with too many thoughts but only one stuck out to me-How could he.

I finally reached the bottom of the staircase to see my father, his eyes full of regret and guilt. Then it hit me right at the heart. Betrayal.

I stopped for a millisecond holding back the tears that were threatening to take over. I looked him in the eye and I could tell he wanted to apologise but I shook my head. I wasnt the one he needed to apologise to the most.

I ran and ran. I let free the tears I had held back and let the sobs rack through my body.

*Flashback Ends*

I looked up into my best friends eyes which held anger and sadness within their depths.

I was trying to fight back the tears whilst The Parent Trap was on in the background, but she grabbed me close.

"Come here" she held me close and the riverbank exploded.
