I was SO excited to do a Pirates of the Caribbean one. 1, cause I LOVE this movie and I've actually seen it and 2, because I LOVE the Caribbean. :P Your next chapter awaits! Drink up, me hearties yo ho. :P I don't really think I have to prove to you it's a movie but here anyway: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0325980/ AND the soundtrack is awesome!!
"What?" I smirk. "It wouldn't surprise me right now if you told me he was trying to kill me."
"He's not." Captain Balfire says slowly. "Because... the King, Edward - your father back at the port, is not your real father. And, Anna is not your real mother."
At first I think he's kidding, until I look at his completely straight face. That doesn't stop me from bursting into laughter.
"What? You're... you're telling me he's not my father? And... my mother isn't my mother? Fine, then who is?"
"Someone else. A man called James Bennett, and his wife, Myra Bennett. Your parents.."
"Does that mean... I'm not a princess?" After all, it wouldn't be that bad. What was I really?
"Not exactly. Your father was Edward's brother. By everyone's standards, you are, but not technically."
"Oh, my." I sigh, taking the news in. "Are my parents still alive?"
Here, he sighs and looks away. "Your father is. But... your mother is not."
"What? Why? What happened?!" I feel my voice rising. When he doesn't answer, I pound my fist on the couch angrily. "Why won't you answer me?!"
"It's not for me to give you the answers you seek." He gets up, walking over to his desk. "Your father will tell you when we arrive."
I don't quite know how to take all of this. It definitely means that Charles is not my real brother anymore, and hence, it looks like I've lost all rights to the throne. "How do you know all this?" I ask. Not only is he completely strange, he also knows everything. Big surprise there.
"I know your father. He's a good man. And that's why you're going to meet."
That's possibly the nicest thing anyone's ever done for me, except for the time Evangeline threw me a surprise birthday party. I smile. Maybe I was wrong about the Captain. Maybe he does have a heart under all his bravado. "What does he look like?"
"Very much like you - same eyes - same hair. It's not hard to see you two are related. Well, now that that's settled, you're free to go."
This is the first - and probably one of the last times I'll get to actually talk with him alone. I get up, but hesitate. "Uh... I just wanted... well I didn't really want to... but..." I hesitate. He doesn't turn around or make any sort of noise that he's listening. "Uh... I guess what I'm trying to say is... that if you hadn't turned up when you did... I'd have to marry some old slob so..."
I can't decipher the look he gives me, whether it's scorn, amusement, or both. "If you're thanking me, I'm not sure I deserve it." He nods towards the door.
"Point taken." I sigh and fling the door shut behind me.

If the rest of the crew wonder why I'm so silent for the next few days, they don't ask why. Arthur shows me how to climb the rigging all the way to the top and Beefy tells me his secret recipe for the slop he makes - which I'm slowly getting used to. I don't see any more of the Captain, and it's starting to eat away at me why and what he does in his cabin all day, with no one around.
Surely, he must get lonely. I know I'd go mad in a tiny room all by myself. At least I have Rusty. He seems to like my company and hardly dares leave my side. I still don't know why the crew refused to let him out.
