~Erika's POV~
I woke up in the middle of the field laying on top of Hunter's chest with his arm around me. I lifted my head up and Hunter woke up. "Sorry, did I wake you?" I said blushing. "Nah it's fine, we need to wake up anyway" He said. I started getting up when I spot my dad across the field looking around. Hunter started getting up and I go back down pushing him down with me. "Ah! what was that for?" He asked giving me a confused look. "My dad is right there looking for me. If he sees me with you he will think we were together all night" I said looking around. "But we were..." He said laughing a bit. "Okay. then he will KNOW we were together all night." I said. "Come on, I know where we can hide" He said grabbing my hand and running towards the corn fields.
"These are about 7 feet high. He can't spot us in here" Hunter said smiling. We sat down facing each other. "What are we going to do?" I asked. "Well..I guess we can come out in a hour and just say we went for breakfast.." He got up "In the meantime what should we do?"
I started to think and tapped on his shoulder and ran away "Tag you're it" I said and stuck my tongue out. "Are you serious? Tag?" He laughed. "Yup. Why not?" I said smiling. "I think it's kinda stupid..cause we obviously know i'm going to get you" He said starting to run after me. I ran in so many directions I think I lost Hunter. I all the sudden felt a pair of arms pick me up and swing me around. "Got you!" Hunter said laughing. But all the sudden he stopped and put me down. I turned around and saw my father with his arms crossed. "Dad I-" I said but got interrupted. "No. No excuses" He grabbed my arm and started pulling me back to the house. I turned back and I could see Hunter mouth the word 'Sorry' with a frown.
Once we got into the house my dad looked furious. "Where the hell were you last night? Never seen you come home. Let me guess. With Hunter. Of course." He started to pase back and forth. "What's even the big deal? I like him. So what?" I asked. "The problem was that I had no idea where you were. Sorry I was worried about you!" He yelled. My aunt ran down the stairs. "Hey! what's going on down here?" She asked standing between us. "She was out last night and never came home. And she doesn't even care that I was worried sick looking for her for hours. Nope. She was out with her boyfriend in the fields playing fucking tag. Now can you tell me what you were doing last night and why you never came home?!" He asked with the same expression he had before but worse. "I was with Hunter. We fell asleep in the field cause we were so tired. He was teaching me how to ride a horse. He was doing something that you would never do. Help me with things that I WANT!" I shouted and ran upstairs to my room.
~Hunter's POV~
When I got back to my house I went up to my room. My dad was out last night so he didn't know I was gone. I opened my window and saw Erika sitting in her room. I leaned over and knocked on her window. "Erika!" I shouted getting her attention. She goes over to the window and opens it. "Hunter don't worry it wasn't your fault" She said with a half smile. "Yeah it was.. I'm the one who brought you horse riding, and took you into the corn field" I said frowning. "Hunter. I'm the one who insisted for you to teach me and I fell asleep before you did" She said. "I'll be right back" I closed my window and ran to Erika's front door. I knocked and her dad answered. "Hi, Mr. Davis. I'm really sorry about what happened. It was all my fault not Erika's. I was the one who wanted to teach her how to ride a horse, fall asleep outside and hide in the corn fields. I'm very sorry, sir" I said with a sincere look. He took a deep breath "Alrighty then. You could have told me you guys were staying over night instead of scaring me though. See ya around Hunter." He closed the door and I ran back up to my room. I opened my window and saw Erika.
"What did you-" She was cut off by her father calling her from downstairs. "I'll be right back.." She said walking out of her room.
After about twenty minutes or so she walked back in. "Thanks..But still wasn't your fault" She smiled as she went up to the window. "I'll take the blame for it" I said as I closed my window.
~Next Day~
~Erika's POV~
I wake up from the light coming from my window. I groan and throw a pillow at it to block the light from coming in. Then I realized the window was open when I heard my dad saying "What the hell?" from outside. I got up quickly towards the window "Sorry dad! Didn't know the window was open.." I closed it and took a shower.
As I got out I got dressed and headed down stairs for breakfast. My dad was back in the house and he handed me a plate full of pancakes, eggs, and bacon. "Here is a lovely breakfast for a lovely daughter" My father smiled. "Are you okay? What did I do?" I asked suspiciously. "Do you not know what today is? It's your 18th Birthday!" My dad laughed. A huge smile went on my face. I grabbed my plate and skipped my way towards the table. "You know what would make my birthday ten times better?" I asked. "What is that?" My dad asked smiling. "If Melissa and Grace were here" I sighed. As I put a piece of pancake in my mouth I felt something pull me back in my chair and squeeze me. I screamed in fear and turned around. But once I saw who it was this time I screamed in excitement. "What are you guys doing here?!" I said smiling wide. "How could we miss our best friends birthday?" They both hugged me. This hug lasted as long as the airport hug. "We have so much stuff to tell you!" Grace said. We ran upstairs to my room and shut my door.
"So, what have I missed when I was gone?" I smiled. Melissa was looking out the window "No no. The question is. What have we missed when you were here?" She winked pointing out the window. I got up and closed the curtain. "Oh, that's Hunter. We're just friends..He wouldn't like me like that anyway.." I sighed, blushing. "That's what I thought about Daniel and I but now we're dating" She smiled. "Congrats Grace!" I said.
~After our conversation~
We walk outside and I show them around. All the sudden Grace hugged me. "How can you live like this!?" She asked with horror. "It's not that bad to be honest.. I kind of like it.." I said as she let go of me. "You..Like it?..Here?" She asked again. "I bet she likes it because of Hunter" Melissa winked. "Speaking of Hunter.." Grace said staring at him as he starting walking towards us with his older brother Greg.
"Hey Erika, these your friends?" He asking smiling. "Yeah, This is Melissa and Grace" I said pointing at each of them as I said their name. "Greg? Gregory Wills? Is that you?" Melissa asked with a huge smile. "I knew you looked familiar! How have you been Mel?" Greg asked giving Melissa a huge hug. "I'm doing great!" Mel released the hug. All of us were standing around them confused. "Oh. Greg and I used to go to Elementary school together for a couple of years when I lived here. We both had the same teachers for 4 years. We didn't have one together in 5th grade because I got held back.. After that I moved to New York and met you guys" Mel said with a half smile.
"Oh, wow good thing you came to visit then" I said. "Maybe we can do something later to catch up" Greg said smiling. "Sure. I would love to but I just got here maybe tomorrow night?" Mel asked blushing. "Alright, see ya then. It was great seeing you again" Greg walked off. "Oh that reminds me. This is for you Erika. Happy Birthday!" Hunter smiled handing me a small box with a note on it.
I hope you enjoy your gift! Make sure to wear it when we go out Friday. ;)
Lots of love, Hunter.
"Aww, you didn't need to get me anything" I smiled. "I know but I wanted to. So 8 o'clock?" He asked winking. "Sure. 8 is good" I said still all smiley. Once he walked off I turned around and see my two best friends raising an eyebrow. "Mhm, sure. Just friends" Grace smirked. We walked back to the house and got ready for bed. Mel and Grace were fast asleep. I couldn't sleep though. I felt like I forgot to do something. After a couple minutes I remembered I forgot to open the gift Hunter gave me. I reach over and took the small box off my counter. I open it and see the most thoughtful necklace i've ever gotten. I close the box smiling and went straight to sleep.
