Nick Campbell's Home - Wembley, London
"Oh my God," Detective Sergeant Peggy Parker said, looking up and brushing a loose, copper strand of hair off her oval, fair-peach face. Her partner, Detective Inspector Nick Campbell, looked across the table at her.
"What?" He asked, meeting her gaze. "It's not the coffee is it?" An apologetic smile appeared on his soft, chestnut face. Nick had been meaning to replace the kettle, but it seemed he had gotten used to the taste of lime scale.
Peggy smirked back across at him, putting her cup back down on the wooden kitchen table. "We have to stop doing this, Nick. We're sneaking around like school children."
"It's fine, no one knows about us anyway. That meeting with Yates made it pretty clear about his stance on office romances. It's just a few more weeks until I get transferred, then I don't care who knows." Peggy got up from her chair to turn off the tap Nick had left on before sauntering across to him. She wrapped her arms around his shoulders.
"Hmm, I'm not really sure I can wait that long," she giggled. Just as Nick leant up to kiss her, Peggy's phone began to ring.
Peggy answered the call, moving away from Nick as he pulled a face of disappointment.
"DS Parker... Yes, Sir... Of course, I'll be there right away." She put down the phone before looking up at Nick, "There's been an incident at Embankment Station; sounds pretty serious."
As if on cue, Nick's phone began ringing. "Nick Campbell," he answered as Peggy rushed to her car, preparing to drive to the case that would change everything.
A40 Road, London
The drive to Embankment Station was surprisingly quiet for Peggy. The usually busy roads were relatively empty despite the odd car or two either going in for the early shift or coming back from a late one. It was at quiet times like these that Peggy's mind began to wander. She thought about what Nick had said about being transferred: it would be a weird experience for Peggy as she'd be given a new partner for the first time since becoming a detective sergeant. Nick had been adamant on getting transferred if it meant they could go public with their relationship. It would be nice for them to not have to hide anymore, almost like a big middle finger to the department. Peggy turned on the radio, taking a deep breath of the jelly bean air freshener she had been given as a 'Secret Santa' present last year. She was ready for the day ahead.
