The Beginning ~ Virgo

In all the centuries of my life, I would have never expected for this to happen.

Here I was, wrapped in the arms of one of the important people in my entire life, while bawling my eyes out. Even millions of calculations and future planning wouldn't prepare me for this, ever.

The sight wasn't pretty either, both our shirts were practically soaked just from my tears while snot was running down my nose and my chin. You'd think that since we're Gods that at least we would have a Godly appearance everywhere we go, well apparently ugly crying wasn't going anywhere any time soon. So much for that.

Events led to one after another. After Capricorn's heroic moment I immediately started crying. This resulted in her panicking, awkwardly patting my back, and looking as if she wanted to be anywhere else but here as my sobs starting escalating into a full-blown waterfall.

"Virgo you're ruining my shirt stop." Opposite to her words however, the usually stoic girl was gently smiling down at me. Almost in a motherly way. Tan hands stopped just above my head, debating either to comfort or push me to the floor. Luckily she chose the former, her hands now starting to lightly tread across my scalp.

Slowly my sobs turned into slight sniffles before it completely stopped. The girl above me humming in satisfaction.

Finally, when I was able to properly think straight, the realization dawned on me. We weren't in a very good position. At all.

My head was on her lap, both our shirts wet beyond saving. And worse, the door was wide open. Squirming, Capricorn looked at me curiously before she got the message. She stood up hurriedly while pushing my head off her lap. Closing the door, she practically jumped back down on the bed. Although far away from me. If I didn't pay attention, I would've been missed the dark blush on her face. Heh, cute.

"Hey.. can you do the hair thing again." As weird as it sounded, she complied, once again moving her hands through my hair. That was the peculiar thing about us. We've always had a mutual understanding of each other, knowing what the other was thinking without saying a word.

We were both perceived as cold by others, the ice duo. The only one who never called us that strangely enough was Leo. He grimaces every time I pass by, even having the nerve to completely ignore me when I greet him. Sometimes I just think he really hates me, with an intense passion. Everyone around me assures me that it's completely false, and that he doesn't want to snap my neck. I'm still not convinced, especially after he tried to stab me with a kitchen knife while we were cooking.

Letting the thoughts leave me, I shifted my weight on the bed, the atmosphere settling into a comfortable silence. Capricorn combed her hands throughout my hair, the sunlight leaving warm kisses across my skin. Everything was peaceful. Everything was going to be okay.

"So Capricorn.." I began, frowning slightly whenever her hands stopped. "What are we going to do about the whole annual revival and our souls being sucked out thing?"

In response was a groan. The bed creaking as she laid down next to me. "Easy, we just say oh pretty please would you not suck out our souls." Using her hands, she proceeded to make the crappiest hand puppet show I've ever witnessed. "And because we're so beautiful and amazing they'll be like, oh yeah, totally. Man why were we sucking out these guys souls in the first place?  Then boom, we're free."

Scoffing lightly, I flicked her forehead. The girl looking unamused at my antics. "Yeah like that'd totally work, Astraea wouldn't pierce my organs with a spear at all."

"At least you wouldn't have a damn God smash your head in with a door while screaming about how it was imported from the best traders in the world." As her face broke out into a large grin, a warm feeling buzzed throughout me. Not being able to help as small giggles turned into large chortles. Looking surprised at first, she started to join me. Our laughter echoing off the walls, frantically trying to stop. Through our fits of laughter, I had rolled down onto the floor. Capricorn laughing at my pain while I half laughed, half cried.

Soon it died down a bit, Capricorn wiping tears from her eyes. "You're stupid you know that?"

"There's no stupid without an I in it." Suddenly realizing what I said, Capricorn started to snicker at my mistake. "I meant an u!"

"Sure you did." Noticing I was still on the floor, a brilliant idea popped in my head. Lunging for her legs, she shrieked as she was pulled down. "Oh how wonderful."

"Don't thank me, thank karma." Expecting to hear a laugh, or even a grunt in reply, I was only met with an eerie silence. With my forearms, I pushed my body up to look at her. My eyes widened, her hands covered her face, entire body trembling. Silent cries being held back by closed lips.

Abruptly before I could do anything, she mumbled, her voice brittle. "How long can we keep this up?" Such a simple question caught me in surprise. This was the one question I could never answer. The one question I couldn't find through books, people, nothing. She needed confirmation, something to keep holding on to. We both did. Even when I knew better, I dismissed it as a joke.

"I don't know, maybe for about two more minutes until our patrons come barging in to slap us?"

Her hand weakly slapped me on the arm, but I could tell just from the way her mouth twitched, she was trying to fight back a smile. But when she did, I swear to all the Gods that it was just so genuinely sweet. Yet, it was restrained, as if the act itself was wrong.

See I never really was a touchy person, nor a comfort person either. But this time I would make an exception. Hesitantly, my fingers reached for hers. Touching the tips of her fingers before settling for laying it down next to hers. Her own hand reached out for mine, an act of reassurance.

We were perfectly content sitting on the floor, holding hands. "Hey Capricorn?"

"Mhm?"

Unconsciously my hand tightened around hers. "We should have a meeting to discuss what we're going to do. You know, the whole ritual we forgot about."

Her facial expressions were interesting, they changed from agreement to horror.

"Virgo, that'd be great, but we have a problem here." Instantly I looked at her worried, her hand pointing to the window. Looking at it curiously, it finally dawned on me. The ritual always took place at dawn, right now it was midnight but I could barely see the skies start to grow brighter with each passing moment.

"Γαμώ!"

This chapter was comic relief to be honest, the chapters after this, you won't really see too much of. Okay that's a lie. But really, 50% of this chapter was crying.

For anyone wondering, a patron is the Zodiac's guardian God/Goddess. Usually it's by their month, or by a God I just thought was fitting for them.

Right now you only really know a handful of characters, well two if you haven't read the Gemini one I released before this. The other characters I'll hopefully be able to introduce them in the upcoming chapters.
