(Drew's POV)
I watched as Jade ran off. Her words echoed in my head. "Your father..." I took off sprinting towards my front door. Bursting inside, I glanced at the scene in front of me. My sister was leaning against a couple of moving boxes, texting on her phone. Dad was brandishing his gun, cursing under his breath. Trying to control myself, I glared at my father.

"Why do you have your gun out?"

As if just noticing me, my father looked up. "Son, you won't believe what just happened."

Still glaring, I say, "Try me."

Dad was looking at his gun closely while talking. "A wolf got into the yard. Can you believe that? I took a shot at 'em, missed. I think I'll go out tonight and look for that nasty creature again."

My father's hated wolves for years. When he was little, he and his brother would go out into the woods all the time. They happened to run into a rogue and the creature mauled his brother. He was in the hospital for months, and he was never the same afterwards. Ever since my dad's hates the creatures with a passion.

"Dad, I wouldn't go out looking for it again."

"Son, it's not going to go away if we don't do anything about it." My father said grudgingly. I sighed. Hopefully Jade would stay indoors tonight.

(Jade's POV)
Later that night, I decided to go out to the treehouse me and Fletcher always hung out in.

Sneaking out the back door, I shifted and glanced at the Carter's house. One light was on in the house. I shrugged and sprinted into the woods, around Drew's house. I froze. Something wasn't right. I felt like I was being watched. Suddenly I heard a gunshot. My ears flatten as I burst off running. Another gunshot. My paw met a gnarled root in the ground and I fell forward on my muzzle. I hoped the shooter wasn't running after me and I stayed where I was.

After a few minutes, I stood up shakily. My muzzle throbbed dully but the pain was subsiding. I padded towards the treehouse as quietly as I could. Nearing the ladder, I shifted into my human form again and climbed up. I huddled in the corner, burying my head in my sweatshirt. I was living next door to an absolute madman.

(Drew's POV)
As soon as I heard the gunshots, I bolted upright in bed. I pulled over a sweatshirt and bolted out into the living room. I exited out the garage. The garage door was open. The cabinet where my father kept his gun was open and empty. My heart was racing. I ran out into the woods as fast as I could. Suddenly my only thought was to get somewhere where I thought Jade would go.

The lantern in the old treehouse was lit, and the small window was illuminated. I made my way cautiously up the ladder. Pushing the door open, I step inside. Jade was huddled in the corner, her head in her hands. She looked up when I came in. Her eyes narrowed. "What do you want?"

I step towards her. "I'm so sorry." She stands up. "It's not your fault." Her eyes were cold.

But somewhere, deep inside, I felt fully responsible for what has happened.
