Gabe's sister Kim drove into the parking lot five minutes later. Kim was the same age as Allison, seventeen, but she was sweeter. Allison and Kim have been best friends since they were seven. And through them is how I met Gabe. Anyway, Kim pulls the car into the parking space beside me and I walk around to the passenger side of the Honda.
'I'll be home later.' I yelled behind me as I got into the car. We didnt speak until we had drove through two lights. We'd be at there house in just a few minutes.
'Are you okay?' Kim asked, breaking the silence. When she said that, I burst into tears. I'm not a crier, but something about the concern in her voice just broke me walls. I guess.
'Aw honey.' Kim whispered as I cried, the kind of tears that shake your whole body and make you gasp for air. Other than the radio, it was silent the rest of the way to Kim and Gabe's house. She parked the car and then she pulled me in for the best hug you can have when you are sitting in a car.
'Honey, I don't know what is going on, but it will be okay.' Kim whispers as she lets go. I nodded dumbly, still trying to stop crying and still failing. We both get out of the car, but while she walks into the house I stop on the front porch. She shuts the screen door behind her but not the front door. I heard everything that Kim said inside.
'Gabe! Chris is here!' Kim called.
'Coming' Gabe responded, and his voice sounded like he was moving while talking. It was a monday so I knew Gabe's parents weren't home.
'Gabe, do you know why Chris was crying?' Kim asked, in a quiet gentle tone, a few moments later.
'No, but I'll find out.' Gabe said and the screen door opened. He stood infront of me and out his hands on my shoulders. Hid blond curls were damp, either from a work out or a shower, and I could smell his deodorant.
'Don't try to tell me that you weren't crying. Whats wrong?' Tears filled my eyes again, and I looked away from him.
'Christine.' Gabe said, I knew he meant business because he never uses my full name. At that minute, I heard a jeep pull into the drive way.
'Bye ma! Bye muches!' JC yelled and I wriggled my way away from Gabe.
'Whats up?' JC asked as she made her way onto the porch. Her black hair was pulled into a braid and her grey eyes held mischief.
'I'm trying to get Chris to tell me why she was crying in Kim's car. ' Gabe says point blank, without taking his eyes off of me.
'Chris? Whats up?' JC asked. I bit my lip. 'Tell us. Please.' JC begged.
'Cassidey has luekemia.' I blurted just like Mathew did earlier, but without the anger.
There is a picture of Allison up top.
