Who am I?

No one said a word on the way back to the mansion. Yui sat next to Ayato but Chi was not by her side. Instead she was on the other side of the car in between Kanato and Laito. Kanato was staring silently at Teddy, his face blank and unreadable. Chi sat there silently too, painfully aware of Laito lustful eyes on her all the while. Chi looked over at her sister who sat with her head looking down at her lap and her hands clasped together tightly. Something she only did when she needed to cry but was trying to hold it in. Chi brought her tongue to her two new sharp teeth, she knew she wouldn't get used to the feeling for a long time. Plus all the new things she could smell and hear were making her feel dizzy. She was noticing things that she hadn't before, she could hear the blood rushing through people's veins, she could smell everyone's individual scent. When the limousine stopped everyone climbed out. Yui took one last glance at Chi and for a second the two looked at each other in silence. Then Yui was tugged by Ayato and she left. Kanato and Chi were the last two to get out of the limousine but Chi didn't move once they were out. She stood completely still, staring at the floor.

"Is Chi upset?" Kanato asked as he stood beside her.

"Yes Kanato I am. Everything has happened so fast. It feels like my world has been turned upside down. I...I just don't know what I'm meant to do from here." She said quietly. Kanato took Chi hand in his while he held Teddy in the other. Chi looked up at him, was he trying to comfort her? It was hard to tell how Kanato felt about her. She he had told her that he loved her but he was also so violent towards her that it was hard to tell if that was true or not.

"Let's go to the dolls room." He said cheerily and began to pull Chi along. She didn't want to go to that room. It gave her the creeps and there was always the thought that he might try and turn her into one of his creepy dolls again. They reached the room and Kanato dragged her down the hall. Chi glanced at the many corpses dressed in as brides as her mind thought back to the man she had killed. His skin had been like that too. So perfect after she had drained his whole body of blood. Tears pricked at her eyes as she thought about what she had done. How could she ever be forgiven for that? She should have resisted. She should have just not eaten and died like her estranged Father said would happen if she didn't eat. Then that never would have happened, then Yui would be safe from her. Tears silently rolled down her cheeks but they didn't go unnoticed. Kanato pulled her down to sit beside him. He placed Teddy on his lap and watched as Chi wiped away her tears in silence.

"I've never seen you cry before." He said suddenly breaking the silence. "It's quite....beautiful." Chi looked up at him.

"You'd be about the only one that thinks that."

"Teddy doesn't like to see you upset and neither do I. What do you need to feel better?" He asked softly.

"I don't know...I don't even know who or what I am any more."

"Well that's easy. You'r Chi, a pure blooded vampire and the one that Teddy and I love." Despite her feeling down in the dumps Kanato's words brought a small smile to her face.

"And I love you both too." She said moving closer to him. She very cautiously bent down and placed her head on his shoulder. Kanato allowed her, taking her hand that had been previously placed on her lap.

"Would you like me to sing for you?" He asked her. Chi's eyes widened and she lifted her head of his shoulder to look at him. Sing for her? He had told her that that was something he used to do for his Mother and that was why she had given him the nickname "my songbird."

"You don't have to do that Kanato. I mean...I know it was something special you did for your Mother."

"I did because Mother was special to me but Chi is special to me too. My song always put a smile on Mother's face and I thought that I might make you smile too, even though you're so sad right now." Chi's heart pounded in her chest and her cheeks became red. Despite Kanato being sometimes overbearing and violent it seemed that he did care for her and he was sweet, to her at least. Chi was sure though that it was a side to him that not many got to see.

"I-I'd love for you to sing for me." She answered as she placed her head back on his shoulder. She took a deep breath in and patiently waited for him to begin. Kanato's angel like voice filled her otherwise empty room and with every note Chi could feel her spirits rising. Surely everything would be okay, as long as she was by Kanato's side but then he suddenly stopped. Chi opened her eyes and frowned. He had stopped mid note but why? She looked up at him. His face looked worried as he clung onto Teddy and his grip on her hand began tighter. It hurt a little but Chi didn't complain, something was clearly bothering him.

"Kanato what's wrong?" She asked him.

"Can't you feel it?" He questioned her. "You're a vampire now...you should be able to feel it." That was all he said and then he fell silent again. Chi closed her eyes and focused on her surroundings. She could feel several different presences. The other five brothers and Kanato who was right next to her but she could feel two more. Two different presences that she didn't recognize. Who where those people?

"Who are they?" She asked Kanato. Why did these two new presences make Kanato so nervous. His grip on Chi's hand tightened.

"The less powerful presence is our Uncle Richter. He was my Father's brother but the other I do not know who that it...only that it feels eerily familiar." Chi didn't know the brother had an Uncle but it was clear that it was the other presence that was making Kanato nervous. Chi focused again until she could feel that presence. Then she realized, there was one that she couldn't find.

"Yui. I can't feel Yui's presence." Kanato looked at her with rage in his eyes.

"You speak of her again? Can you not see that I'm worried? Are you paying no attention to my own discomfort after all the times I have sat with you and made you feel better. I sang for you, I even let you hold Teddy once but all you can think about it that pathetic mortal girl." He shouted angrily at her. His words cut Chi like a knife. She didn't like how he always talked about Yui like that but everything he said was true. He had done all those things for her and more.

"I'm sorry Kanato. I am worried about you too." She was going to say that you had never seen him like this before but in a way she had. It was that night when it was thundering outside and she had found him crying in his room. He clung to her like a small child, complaining of being cold and lonely. That was the night that he made Chi tell him that she loved him. "I don't know how to comfort you." She told him honestly. Kanato's eyes softened when she said this.

"Hold me." He said quietly. Chi was shocked by his quiet demand but gently wrapped her arms around him. Kanato leaned into her and buried his face in her neck.

"Kanato do you want to see who that presence belongs too? You said it was familiar...don't you want to know why?"

"I guess but for now...I want to stay with Chi..."
