Chapter 11

Myles' pov
Right now I'm waiting at the entrance of the school for Briar so that Lexi doesn't get to her first. Soon enough, I see Briar get out of her parent's car and walk towards me. She doesn't dare to take the bus anymore because of Lexi. I greet her with a hug.
"How are you feeling today?" I ask.
"Better." She says.
"We have PE first lesson." I say.
"Yeah. I have swimming, what about you?" She asks.
"Football." I reply.
Then the bell rings.
"I guess we'd better go, see you second lesson." I say and walk to the changing room.
Briar's pov
Once we all get changed, we get into the pool and start the lesson.
"I just need to get my watch." The teacher says and walks out of the room.
All of a sudden Lexi turns to me. So do her minions.
"I heard that you're dating Myles." Lexi says.
"Yeah." I say.
"I don't know what he sees in you. I mean just look at your ugly face." She says and laughs.
I try to swim away but Janice stops me. Then Lexi swims towards me.
"Break up with him." She says.
"No." I say.
"You'll regret it." She says.
"No." I repeat.
"You asked for it." She says and pounces on me.
She keeps pushing me under and is much stronger than me so I can't swim back up. I can't breath but she keeps my head under. I splash around until she lets go of my head. I swim back to the surface and gasp for air. I see the teacher looking at us.
"Briar, Lexi, go and get changed. I don't want two trouble makers in the pool." She says.
We get out and walk into the changing room. Once we get dressed, she grabs me, pins me against the wall and starts hitting me. I push her off and run out the doors. She runs after me. We run outside and she pushes me onto the gravel. I cry out in pain as my legs scratch against the hard ground. She starts kicking me and punching me until I hear a whistle. The boys! They were playing football on the field next to us. She hasn't seen or heard them.
Myles' pov
We're play football until Mason stops.
"Look." He says and points at two girls.
One of them was being pushed to the ground and being kicked. Our teacher runs over to them.
"Oh my God." I say and run after him as I see that it's Briar and Lexi.
The teacher grabs Lexi and I run to Briar. He starts shouting at Lexi and I calm Briar down. She was wearing shorts and a t-shirt. Her arms and legs have scratches and blood stains all over them. Soon enough all of the boys are crowded around us.
Suddenly Briar's eyes shut tightly.
"Briar?" I say and shake her gently.
"Briar? Briar!" I shout and Lexi and our teacher stop yelling at each other.
They look at us. The teacher kneels down next to Briar and me.
"Ok everyone give her some air." The teacher says.
The boys back up and Briar's head is resting in my arms. Her eyes are still shut.
"Luke, go and get the nurse." He says and Luke runs off.
"Briar? Can you hear me?" Sir asks.
She lies still in my arms.
"Briar please." I say but she doesn't move a muscle.
I look up at Lexi and she's smiling at Briar.
"HOW CAN YOU BE HAPPY RIGHT NOW?" I yell at Lexi.
"Because I don't care about Briar one bit." She says.
"That's messed up Lexi." Mason says.
"Lexi get into the girls' changing room now." Sir yells and Lexi walks away.
I look back down at Briar. She's lying there and looks peaceful. Then Luke and the nurse arrive.
"Myles let go of her." The nurse says to me.
"No." I say.
"Myles I need to try to wake her. That means I need to hold her." She says calmly.
"Ok." I say and let go of her.
But, I stay by her side.
"Ok boys get back to football." Sir says and the boys go back to the field.
"Myles, you coming?" Mason asks.
"No." I say and he goes back to the field with the teacher.
The nurse is fanning Briar, trying to get her to wake up.
"What happened to her?" She asks.
"Lexi was beating her up. When we noticed them, I got Briar in my arms and her eyes shut." I say.
"I think that Briar is ok. She just fainted. The hot sun, all her cuts and everyone surrounding her, she probably panicked and fainted." The nurse says.
"So she's going to be ok?" I ask.
"Yes. She'll spend the next few hours in my room so that I can check on her throughout the day." She says.
"Ok." I say.
I look back at Briar and her eyes open.
"Myles?" She says.
I hug her tightly.
"What happened?" She asks.
"You fainted." The nurse says.
"Oh. I remember being thrown to the ground and seeing black squares everywhere. Then I felt someone put me in there arms. It must've been you Myles. After that, I saw more black squares and everything went black. Now I'm here." Briar says.
"Why were you alone with Lexi?" I ask.
"She was pushing me under the water. I couldn't breathe. I kept splashing around but she wouldn't let me surface. The teacher kicked us out of the pool and then she started beating me up in the changing room so I ran out of the doors and well, you know the rest." She says.
"Lexi is awful." I say.
"She is. I need to keep you in my room for the rest of the day." The nurse says.
"Ok. Can you help me up Myles?" Briar asks.
"Of course." I say and slowly help her stand up.
I walk her back to the nurse's room and then I have to get back to lessons. I hate Lexi.
