"I'm walking fast through the traffic lights. Busy streets and busy lives. And all we know is touch and go. We are alone with our changing minds. We fall in love 'til it hurts or bleeds or fades in time. And I never saw you coming. And I'll never be the same." State of Grace Taylor Swift
“So you really think that I need cowboy boots?”
“Yeah, I do.” It’s Saturday and we’ve been at work on the CD for about a week. So far we have six songs and are trying to pick a final two. But when I got to the office this morning, Jason insisted that Saturday’s were not for working. So we are spending a day out on the town together.
We’ve pretty much had a date every single night this week, and I’ve been really happy. He’s just a nice guy, plain and simple. We haven’t kissed since that first night in his car, but he’s made sure that we have gone out on fun and simple dates, not hanging around in my apartment confessing our love for each other. Right now he is taking me around the shops in Dallas to find me cowboy boots. “Here is a great shop.” He opened the door to a western shop in the center of downtown and held it for me as I walked in. The store was the definition of Texas. A clerk was happy to come greet us at the door.
“Can I help you?”
“Uh no I think we’re just looking.” Jason came around to my side.
“Actually this little lady right here needs some cowboy boots.” He grinned.
“Well you’ve come to the right place.” The little blonde clerk perked up and showed us to a row of cowboy boots designed for ‘cowgirls’. “Just tell me what you like and I’ll get your size.” Jason was very optimistic and excited about buying me shoes. I mean after all they were just shoes.
“How about you sit down Leah and I will bring you the shoes?” Jason said with a smile on his face and pointed to a chair by a mirror. The chair was covered in cow hide. The rug underneath the chair was also made of cowhide.
“Uh sure,” I sat down as I was told and giggled to myself as Jason perused the rack of boots. Jason picked up a few boots and showed them too me. I pointed to the one I liked. They actually were fairly cute. “I like the one with the rhinestones.”
“Rhinestones it is. What’s your size?”
“7 and a half.”
“Can we have 7 and a half?” The perky blonde girl came over to Jason.
“Sure,” she took the boot from him. “I’ll be right back.” Jason came over to where I was sitting and smiled at me.
“See everyone needs cowboy boots.”
“I haven’t even tried them on yet, so don’t bet your stars on them.”
“Whatever you say.” He decided it was a good time to change the subject. “So Christmas is coming up in a few days.”
“It’s on Tuesday.” I added plainly. I really wasn’t looking forward to Christmas.
“So what will you be doing?” He was hopeful and interested in my plans, even though I didn’t have any. I wanted so bad to put on a happy face and be excited just for him, but I couldn’t. There was no denying it. Christmas was going to suck.
