Chapter 5

We walked to the entrance to the gym. The gym was set up with old movie posters, a nice fancy stage, a dance floor, and tables and chairs for dinner. There was even a red carpet with a photographer leading inside. I was in a very old Hollywood dress (that was our theme) it was black and went to my knees. The silk strapless top extended into a black flowy skirt. I accessorized with a black and white flower pinned to my low bun, pearl earrings, a pearl necklace, and a pearl bracelet. All of which was accented with red lip stick. Tim was wearing a nice black suit with a white shirt and a black tie. We took pictures on the red carpet. A few were silly and some were serious. We walked into the low lit gym and Mr. Brown met us. Even though we were on the board he would never let any of the students decorate because it ruined the surprise. There was always a method to his madness. “Good evening Leah, oh and I see you brought your boyfriend.” Tim reached his hand out, and Mr. Brown shook it. “Nice to see you again.”

“Nice to see you too,” Tim said politely.

“Leah, are you ready to speak?”

“Yes, as always.”

“I will let you begin when everyone gets here. In the meantime, dance.” He showed us to the dance floor. Low slow songs were playing at the moment. Tim put his hands on my waist, and I wrapped mine around his neck. We danced slowly until everyone got there and it was time for me to get the show started. Tim took our seats and I went up to the stage.

“Good evening, and welcome to our annual gala. This show is mostly a fun awards show. We have a few major awards such as best actress, best actor, supporting actress, and supporting actor. Best play which will either be our musical or this year’s one act. This is based on best rehearsal scenes that a few outside people viewed and voted on. We also have the funny awards that are presented at the end, such as best couple of the night, most annoying newbie, biggest flirt, most dedicated to learning the art of theatre, the over excited one, the person most likely to get ancy on a bus ride, and of course the person who has had the biggest blow up. So tonight I would like to get started with the best actor. This man, or should I say guy has had a few influential performances during his time here. He wows the crowd, and wins the heart of all the ladies, well most of them. Our best actor for the year is no other than James Gregory. James please come up here and get your award.” He came up and was handed a mock Oscar. I clapped, and gave him a quick hug, then he went and sat back down next to Lane. “Now I would like to bring to the stage Mr. Brown who will present the award of best actress.” I went and took my seat next to Tim.

“This girl has shown dedication to the department the day she stepped foot in my class. She has a passion for theatre and dance that is unmatched. She could easily find a career in this if she wanted too, and with great honor I present this award to Miss Leah Cain. Leah please come over here.” Everyone clapped and I kissed Tim who was smiling from ear to ear. I also thought we had best couple locked up. I went to the stage and took my fake Oscar from Mr. Brown and hugged him. I went back down and sat next to Tim. The rest of the awards were a drag, typical stuff. Leah got best supporting actress, and Mark got best supporting actor. Our musical won, and we were left with the last funny award of best couple of the night. The winners received a tiara and a crown. There was a dance afterwards, and then the gala would be over. Lane got to present this award.

“Okay, so on to the best award of the night. The most, should I say, romantic or sweetest couple of the night, as voted on by you. Now we all know that our most famous and beloved stars always have to be accompanied by their sweetheart when on the red carpet and at the show, but just who is the sweetest? We may be won over by older actresses or actors with the person who they have known forever, but sometimes the sweetest thing is the young love that takes place. Our theatre galas most romantic couple is Leah Cain, with her sweetheart, Tim.” I guess we just went public. We got up and kissed each other. There were smiles all around. We went up to the stage and got crowned. We were handed our pictures from the red carpet, and then we met on the dance floor. We danced to “Lucky” by Jason Mraz. I melted in his arms, and I knew that this was our song. The night finally ended, and Tim came back with me to my place. When we walked in the front door, I put my awards on my dresser, and took the flower out of my hair. I took my accessories off, and took of my tall Mary Jane heals. I went to my closet, and slipped out of my dress and into my pajamas. Then I took my makeup off, and went back to my bedroom. Tim was sitting on the bed in his pajamas. I sat down next to him and he kissed me.
