Chapter 10Joey was irate. Here he was standing in the hall way of school watching on as his girlfriend was being kissed by another guy. Not just any guy either; it had to be Liam Goler.
“It’s not what it looks like,” Hope jumped in front of Liam almost stumbling over her words. Her head shot up and in an instant she found herself staring intently back at Joey.
She was more worried for Joey than Liam at the present moment. Based upon past experience she had a pretty good idea of exactly what type of harm that Liam could possibly inflict on Joey. The poor boy wouldn't have an ice cubes chance in hell if Liam unleashed his powers on him.
Joey scoffed, “Hope, I know what I saw with my own two eyes. I'm not stupid nor blind." Joey started to shake his head slowly back and forth as his temper began to mount even more. His body was stretched as taught as a bow with tension, especially after everything that has happened over the past weekend with Hope and the implications that Liam was behind all of it.
Trembling with anger Joey continued. "That freak,” he stated and was talking so loud now that everyone in the hall way had stopped to watch the scene play out before them. He then lifted his hand and pointed an accusing finger in Liam’s direction, “Was kissing my girl friend and now I am going to kick his ass.”
Joey determinedly threw his book bag down on the ground and started to roll up his sleeves as he stepped forward beckoning Liam to come to him. It was on.
Liam stood behind Hope and gently pressed his hand to the small of her back. The small touch seemed to help keep him grounded when all he really wanted to do was blast the guy that was standing before him with his energy. Another minute or two and the high school quarterback would be overstepping his bounds. When that happened Liam wasn't sure that he would be able to control himself. It would be so easy to do, he mused. A flick, a thought and then Bam, he would be nothing but ashes at his feet.
“Stop!” Hope ordered fiercely; throwing her hands up, palms facing out and placing them on Joey’s chest. “Stop this nonsense, right now, please,” she begged. Her voice cracked under the strain but Liam’s hand held firm against her back. She felt an interminable connection with Liam and strangely enough she could have sworn that she was also sensing how hard it was for him to restrain himself and his power.
Joey was staring over Hope's head looking directly into the eyes of Liam when he spoke again, "Hope, go on to class. Liam and I need to have a little talk, isn't that right Liam?"
The statement came out as more of an order and Hope had to bite her tongue at the retort that she was about to say.
Liam stayed put all to aware of the eyes that were watching them. This was not the time nor the place for him to lose his head. "Listen, GQ, why don't you run along somewhere and I'll take care of Hope. She needs a real man and evidently your not living up to the status quo."
Hope snapped her head around and glared at Liam, "Will you shut up?!"
