Chapter 12
Liam pushed the door open with more force than necessary and stalked out of the nurse's office. He had a huge a wad of tissue stuffed up his nose and was not in the best of moods. After the sucker punch that Joey had so generously delivered to his face, he was incensed. If Hope had not been there, then he shuddered to think of what could have happened. He probably would have done something stupid in retaliation. Really stupid, like kill the dumb jock.
"Hey." Bethany called out to Liam when she finally spotted him charging out of the Nurse's office. She stood up from where she had been sitting and patiently waiting for him to come out. After the spectacle she witnessed in the hall between Joey and him earlier and the fact that Hope had yet to return any of her calls, she made the decision to talk to him personally.
The last time that she saw Hope, Liam was the one that carried her away from her own birthday party after she collapsed in pain. Something was going on with the two of them and she was bound and determined to get to the bottom of it. She missed her friend. One way or the other, she needed to know what that something was so that she could get her best friend back.
Liam heard the girl call out his name but didn't bother to look back in her direction. He had no intentions of talking with anyone right now. Instead, he just strode forward and completely ignored her. If truth be told, he would rather chew on a handful of nails than have to deal with another one of the exclusive members of what he considered the 'social elite club'.
Bethany frowned when she realized that he was not going to stop and in the very next moment she started to trail after him, "HEEYYY!!" She called out, raising her voice so that it echoed in the halls.
He paused mid-stride and for a moment she thought that he was actually going to stop for her, that was until he resumed walking again, even faster this time.
"Can't I catch a break," she muttered under her breath irritably.
Picking up her pace, she ran after him until she finally caught up and grabbed him by the arm; pulling him to a halt. "Hey, didn't you hear me calling out your name?" She looked up at him expectantly and struggled to catch her breath after her unexpected sprint.
Liam glared back at her, irritated that someone like Bethany was bothering him.
"What do you want?" he snapped. Bethany flinched back from his angry tone and for half a second, he almost regretted snapping at her. Almost.
"Look," she started nervously, after slowly letting her breath out. She then stuffed her hands in her pockets and lifted her head so that she met his eyes. "All I want to know is where you took Hope on Friday night. She hasn't been the same since then and Joey thinks that maybe, well maybe you took advantage of her or something."
Liam let out a shrill sounding laugh that mocked the hilarity of the situation. He looked down at Bethany and shook his head in disdain. "This is rich," he said sarcastically. "He thinks that I actually took advantage of her. I should have known that it would be something like that," he added and had to turn away from the accusing look in Bethany's eyes.
