Chapter 30
They were almost there, so close to the door that would lead them outside and to their ultimate freedom that they could taste it. They turned the last corner and ran as fast as their feet would take them to their final destination. Liam was leading the group, holding tight to Hope's hand and Amari was running on the opposite side of him. Both Bethany and Max were close on their heels when out of nowhere, a massive wall of soldiers appeared, blocking the only exit.
"Oh shit," Hope exclaimed, loud enough for everyone in that small hallway to hear. Liam didn't respond. He went into immediate action, shoving Hope behind him and pushing her down so that she lay flat on the ground. "Stay," he muttered the one word command and turned to Amari, sharing a knowing look with with her. She nodded in acquiescence.Simultaneously, they both turned around with their hands held out in front of them. With determined concentration they willed a massive wave of energy so strong that it let off an orange like glow.
In seconds, the electronic wave struck the wall of soldiers, instantly bringing every single one of them to their knees. One by one, they held their heads in their hands as the energy penetrated the center of their brains, causing intense pain to assault them over and over and over again.
As Liam watched the soldiers fall, all he could think about was what the Secret Service did to his own family- his mother, his father. They stole them away from him and now he was taking some of his own recompense by bringing every single one of them to their knees.
Watching them so intently, anger burned in his veins. It was a fever that he couldn't cool. They didn't even stop with his parents. No, they had to go after Hope too; the only other person in this world that he gave a damn about. They hurt her, he reminded himself. They tried to take her as one of their prisoners all because of their own greed for something that didn't belong to them. Tightening his fists, he intensified the energy that he was radiating out from his body. They all need to die just like my parents died trying to save me.
He was so ensconced in what he was doing that Liam was completely unaware that the entire wall of soldiers had fallen to the ground and were now unconscious. All he could see was the energy that he was excreting from his body. When the noise died down, Hope cautiously sat up from the floor and noticed the trance like state that Liam was in. Standing up, she walked over to him and touched his shoulder. The moment that their energies met, he came back to her and dropped his hands to his sides. Turing around he faced her and all of the hatred and anger that had built up inside of him completely vanished. All he could see was her; his Hope.
She cradled his cheek in her hand and gave him a smile. "We're not like them," she told him once again. "We're better than they are."
He swallowed and leaned his face into her hand, loving the way that her touch felt against his skin. With her free hand, she took his hand in hers and gave it a reassuring squeeze, "What do you say handsome, you want to get out of here?"
This time it was Liam that did the smiling. "Hell...... yeah," he breathed out gruffly. He had his girl by his side and all of the Lyrics in the facility had been freed. He was more than ready to get out of this place.
Hope turned around and Bethany gave her a nod of approval. As a group, they all made their way to the exit, this time their heads held high. As they approached the fallen soldiers, Hope gave them no deference. She stepped right on over them and walked out the door. She had enough of this place and right now, all she wanted to do was go home.
