Carl was the one to offer to share a tent. Major blushing right now. 'Keep cool.' I repeated in my head.
"Carl?" Rick asked.
"Dad, you and mom need time to talk and I would rather hang out with someone my own age then you adults. No offence" Carl replied shrugging.
Rick nodded, told everyone to get to sleep and Carl and I to set up our tent before the sun was lost.
We walked out together after given a tent and picked a spot a bit away from Soph's and Carols tent.
"Jose? How do you set up a tent?" Carl shyly asked.
"Like this" I chuckled and threw the instructions at him. I knew how to set up a tent. Me and my grandpa went camping in tents all the time on our hunting trips but I haven't set up a tent in three years since we got a cabin.
"Ok, lets try this" Carl spoke to him self. He grabbed a tent poll and started reading the paper of instructions.
"Carl, you put it through the loops on the outside"
"I knew that." He said well retching for the back pretending to scratch it.
I walked to the back of the tent to wait till he fed the poll through to the back side.
"Carl? What's taking so long" I asked a bit concerned.
"Nothing" he lied.
"How about we switch? You wait well I feed it through?" I offered.
"Yeah ok" we switched spots and I giggled.
"You don't camp much do you?" I asked, trying to make small talk.
"Nah. Dads a cop so he's to busy. And was in a coma for a... Month? I can't remember. You camp a lot?" He asked reversing the question.
"Yeah. Hunt a lot with my grandpa before he passed away" I whispered the last part, choking on my words. How is it that it's easy to say in my head but not aloud?
"Sorry I shouldn't of brought it up" he whispered.
"It's fine. Hammer in the posts" Subject change! I smiled.
"Where is it?" I looked around for the hammer to see it laying on the ground beside me.
"Oh. One sec" I grabbed it and walked to the back of the tent.
"H-here" I stuttered. He looks perfect right now. His face covered in dirt, sun setting, eyes capturing. I found if hard to look away.
Carl's POV
Jose walked over to pass me the hammer and I froze, not taking it.
"H-here" she stuttered. I found that cute. She looks perfect right now. Hair down, slightly covering her eyes, skin pale but the sunset hits it perfectly. Wonder how I look? Probably like a hobo. I'm sure we all look like that since we haven't showered since the CDC. She looks perfect even though she hasn't gotten a chance to clean up like us. If only we would of found her earlier. I noticed her staring at me in the eyes, looking lost.
I looked into her eyes but barley able to see them with her hair in the way. I retched up and moved it away and I noticed her blush. I think I'm blushing. Do I look dumb? Is she even interested in me?
"You have beautiful eyes. Don't hide them" I whispered.
"Uh... I've never been called beautiful before" she shyly replied.
"Well I guess I should change that" I replied seriously.
"W-we should.. Uh.. S-set up t-the tent" she stuttered again. I find it cute. I love the fact that she's different from every other girl I've ever met. Brave, skilled, strong, smart, and that amazing country accent. I find everything about her perfect.
"Yeah.." I whispered. I dropped my hand from her face and she raised the hammer so I could grab it.
Josefine POV
After half an hour we finished the tent and set everything up I retched for my bag and grabbed my blanket and laid on the hard ground, I used my clothing bag has a pillow. I was cold with just this blanket and the fact that I was wearing my shorts and t-shirt still didn't help.
"Carl. Turn around and face the wall." I ordered.
"Why? Never mind.." He faced his side once he saw me going through my cloths. I dug through it and found my favourite blue sweats and my long tight sleeve shirt. Did it match? Not even close. But who cares? I didn't then, don't now.
"Ok you can turn around now. " he flipped over and faced me.
"You cold?" He asked with a worried tone.
"Little. But I'll be fine. Slept outside in a tree for the night a few times."
"Be right back" he got up and left the tent.
Several minutes later he came back with a burgundy sleeping bag.
"T-thanks" I stuttered. He smiled and nodded.
I got up and walked over to him, he saw me coming and sat up. I kissed his cheek making me and him blush.
"Thank you for being so concerned."
And with that the sun was gone and we were asleep along with everyone else in the camp who wasn't on watch.
