Gloved hands ran over the worn items lying around the rickety house. He was alone and it was completely silent, but that was alright, he was used to it by this point. Emerald eyes glistened dangerously as they glided over all of his former companions belongings.
It took all of his willpower not to smash everything he touched.
"He completely deserves it" he reasoned through gritted teeth.
"He left me"
His head snapped to the side quickly at his own words.
"Goddammit, why do I care so much?!"
A bitter taste in his mouth, he sat slumped against the cracked wall.
"Why do I care?"

Matt wasn't one to hold grudges. He was very understanding and mature when it came to forgiveness ever since he was a child. He prided himself on it. But whenever he thought of what Mello did to him, he wanted to scream.

His head lifted slightly at the sound of the door opening and closing rather roughly.
"Matt?"
He didn't respond, half out of spite and half because he was too exhausted to deal with Mello.

The blond's footsteps rang throughout the building, apparently searching for him. Matt wished he were invisible. Couldn't he have another few minutes to himself?
A head poked through the doorway to the sitting room that the red head was holed up in.
"Hi"
Matt blinked slowly and blew cigarette smoke in his direction.
Mello narrowed his eyes and approached him slowly.
"Put it out"
"No"
"I said put it out"
"Nope"
He knelt down in front of Matt's face, inches away, a dangerous look in his eyes.
"You know I hate that. I'm letting you stay here. My place, my rules. Now, put it out"
Matt blew the smoke directly into Mello's face, not bothered to respond past that.
At that, the blond grabbed him roughly by the collar, lifting him effortlessly to his feet.
"What the fuck is your problem?"
"Fuck you, Mello"
His eyes narrowed further as he balled his fist. But before he could even think of doing anything else, Matt's fist knocked him backwards, causing him to release him from his grasp.
"You think you can just leave one day without an explanation?! And then just think I'm going to let you back into my life with open arms?! That I'll let you boss me around like the princess you are?! Fuck off"
Mello gritted his teeth. "I didn't want you to show up! You always ruin everything by putting your nose in other people's business! I don't need you here!!!"
A gloved fist flew at his face once again, but this time Mello was prepared. In one swift motion he grabbed his wrist and hit the red head hard in the stomach.
Matt doubled over, panting slightly.
"Oh, you always act like this..."I don't need anyone! Nothing is my fault!" Do you ever... stop to think of... anyone else? Huh?"
Mello lifted him by the collar once again, digging his nails into his neck.
His face was mere centimetres away from Matt's.
"I didn't want to leave you! I left because I despised the life they set out for me! I wanted to take control, and start living my own way! That doesn't mean I ever stopped caring about you!" He hissed.
His rough hands dropped to his sides, causing Matt to stagger backwards awkwardly.
Once he regained his balance, he just stared at the young man before him.
He was still Mello, but there was something different about him, something new and dangerous.
They gawked in silence for a while, quietly examining the other, trying to assess what the other could possibly be thinking.

"You left without even saying goodbye...you didn't even leave a note...I thought I meant more to you than that Mello"
The blond instinctively stepped towards him, his hand brushing against Matt's, but he quickly drew it back again, afraid of how he'd react.
"You meant the world to me Matt...I just..."
He fizzled into silence once again, neither one sure what else to say.

"Well anyways, we're here now so I think it's in our best interest to leave the past in the past. Agreed?" Mello muttered, meeting Matt's intense gaze, a pleading yet threatening look lurking in his ice blue eyes.
The red head reluctantly held his hand out towards him. Mello shook it firmly.
"Agreed" Matt added through gritted teeth, his cigarette still locked between his lips.
Mello smirked.

"Glad we're on the same page"
