Plan

For the past month and a half Matt had woken up to Mello's warm arms tossed around his waist loosely. To Matt, this was his favourite part of the day, listening to Mello's soft breathing in his ear, his rough fingers grazing his bare skin. They would sometimes lay there for seemingly hours on end, pretending to be asleep just to have those precious silent and intimate moments together before one of them eventually got up.

But recently things were different.

Mello had been going to bed later and later, insisting he be alone for hours in the evening. This wouldn't have have worried Matt so much if he hadn't have seen the stressed and quite frankly terrified look in the blonds eyes as he shut the kitchen door to be in solitude.

Matt knew what that meant. He was planning something.

He used to do the same in Wammy's House whenever he was coming up with one of their 'escape' plans. These plans were either left abandoned or just plain didn't work but Matt always knew his heart wasn't in leaving. He would need a bigger reason to become completely independent. Something to push him over the edge.

So now he was confused. He and Mello were safe now. Well, somewhat. They could fend for themselves so why was he suddenly acting so stressed?

He pondered this as the outline of Mello's body approached him in the dark, reaching out towards him through the blankets. He felt him pull him close, holding him a little tighter than usual.

"Mello?"

"Mm?"

Matt turned to his other side, facing Mello's piercing eyes that were boring into his own

"What's going on"

Mello inhaled sharply, suddenly going a little tense

"I don't know what y-"

"Cut the bullshit. I want to know what's going on with you right now"

The blond froze, chewing on his lip thoughtfully. His eyes didn't leave Matt once as he carefully weighed the situation in his mind. Suddenly, he sat up straight with a heavy sigh and stared down at his hands which were playing with the hem of his shirt nervously.

"I have a plan"

Matt's heart sank to the soles of his feet at those words

"What? What do you need a plan for?"

"I can't tell you"

"Bullshit Mihael!"

Mello flinched at his harsh tone and Matt tried to collect himself, shutting his eyes briefly.

"Have you been getting information from Lidner?"

"Yes. Something's going to happen, I know it is but I can't be positive how. So I have a plan that will ensure my escape from the Mafia, one way or another"

"What do you mean by that?"

Mello's gaze shifted sideways towards the red head, a sad smile on his face

"I might die"

Matt felt his blood immediately run cold, his eyes widening involuntarily

"You're only telling me about this now?!"

"I was planning on telling you tomorrow but...I need you to do something for me, if you can"

Matt held back the urge to scream that he would literally do anything for him and instead nodded solemnly

"Although I said I might die there is a possibility I won't. In that instance I will call you and I need you to get me home however possible. Home, nowhere else, okay?"

It was a simple request. A little too simple. He scanned the other man's face carefully.                       He didn't like the look in Mello's eyes one bit.

"What are you planning on doing Mello?"

The blond smirked, dropping his hand over Matt's fondly

"Something very stupid"
